Cory Aquino dies at 76
Former President of the Philippines Corazon Aquino died at 3:18 this morning (Manila time) due to Cardio-Respiratory Arrest. She was 76.
The country’s 11th President who ended the 20-year regime of a dictator was diagnosed with advanced colon cancer last year and she was confined to a Manila hospital for more than a month. It was said that the cancer had spread to other organs and she was too weak to continue her chemotherapy.
The bespectacled mother with her trademark yellow dress, rose in power after the assassination of her husband, former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. in 1983 and her installation as a president after a peaceful revolt in Feb. 25, 1986. These non-violent protests inspired many across the globe.
Supporters have been holding daily prayers for Tita Cory, as she is fondly called, in churches in Manila and throughout the country for the past month. Requiem Masses were scheduled for later Saturday, and yellow ribbons were tied on trees around her neighborhood in Quezon City.
It was her son, Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III who announced that the well-loved former President died at 3:18 a.m. Saturday.
Let us pray for the eternal repose of the soul of our former President.

My Top 10 Emerging Influential blog for 2009 - Final list
About two weeks ago, I posted my partial list of nominees for the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009. I only posted nine blogs at that time simply because I have yet to decide on who will fill the 10th slot although I already had a blog in mind.
I was amazed at the level of interest shown by fellow bloggers on this writing project. Some would openly campaign for their blogs and I don’t have anything against it. I actually admire these bloggers.
I will not discuss the reasons why I picked these blogs. Suffice it to say that I visited these blogs and I liked what I saw on their pages.
This writing project will not be possible without the support of sponsors such as Absolute Traders, My Brute Cheats, Business Summaries, Fitness Advantage Club, Events and Corporate Video, Events at Work, Dominguez Marketing Communications, Red Mobile, Budget hotel in Makati, Lucio C. Tan Group of Companies, and Blog4Reviews.com
Alright, without further ado, here are my top 10 Emerging Influential blogs of 2009:
1. The Joys of Simple Life
2. Femme Power
3. Zorlone
4. Xprosaic's World
5. Dear Bloggery

The SONA and ME
You probably think that I’m neglecting this blog lately. I know that some of you are getting bored with my frequent posts about the MYX Daily Top 10. Nothing new. I admit, I have been very busy lately and my mind was all over the place. I can’t find the inspiration to write new noteworthy posts. I don’t want to start complaining so I’ll stop right here, hehehe.
So what’s the talk of the town? I noticed that when I was blog hopping, every Filipino blogger has something to say about the recent SONA or State of the Nation Address of the Philippine President. Well, last Monday passed by just like any other day except that I needed to take a cab so I can go home in time. I live in Commonwealth Quezon City, a few kilometers from the Batasan Pambansa where the President held her supposedly last SONA so I was one of the many people who were agitated with the severe traffic. That I don’t mind much. What is PhP200 taxi fare compared to the two thousand pesos that I have been paying for my taxes every payday? I really don’t mind; I can not do anything about it, anyway. The government can spend it all they want. But a little honesty would have been appreciated. We deserve it. Would it really hurt to tell the truth? We are not living in a fairy tale world. It’s not hard to assess the condition of the country. Just look around you and you’ll see.
I won’t go into much detail and betray this blog’s advocacy to keep on celebrating Filipino pride… If you’re a Filipino, you should know what I’m talking about.
Let me just share this funny text message that was sent to us about the SONA:
“Ano kaibahan ng fairy tale sa State of the Nation Address?
Ang fairy tale, kwentong di totoo na may duwende. Ang SONA ay may duwende na nagkukuwento ng di totoo!”
I won’t even dare to translate that into English, lol.
Peace!

It’s great to be back!
I was MIA (missing-in-action) in the blogosphere for only four days but it seems years. It felt like my life was not complete in these days that I wasn’t blogging. (I’m now holding back my tears, *sniff* hehehe) I really missed dropping EC cards and visiting my favorite blogs. Blogging has been a part of my daily routine and it wasn’t the same in the last four days that I don’t have a computer. I consoled myself by watching TV and some episodes of the TV series “Lost” which I enjoyed immensely.
If you are wondering what happened to my old PC, I am still staring at it, the same Jurassic PC. Yeah, it’s a good thing that it was revived although I know that it is no longer as reliable as it was. The technician didn’t even know that he was able to fix it, hehehe. He did a thorough test of all the computer parts to isolate the problem, swapping them with working parts. I could have done this myself but since I don’t have access to other parts for testing, I deemed it’s best to bring it to a technician. After testing, he concluded that there’s a problem with the motherboard like I suspected. Some of the slots are no longer working that’s why it was not detecting the hard disks and CD-ROM. He also mentioned that one of my hard disk was full of bad sectors. However, he said that the PC is now detecting the hard disks although it is still turning itself off after a few minutes. Apparently, the technician has given up. So we tested it and I suppressed my happiness when I saw that it loaded Windows. That is good enough for me! I can take it from there, hehehe. And I was right, I was able to make it work and it has been working fine since yesterday. By the way, I only paid PhP350 for the technician’s service.
I was prepared for the worst when I brought the PC to a repair shop. I knew that if there’s a problem with the motherboard, all of the other parts will be useless since the memory, processor and even the power supply will not be compatible with a newer motherboard. And that type of motherboard is no longer available. It would be like buying a new computer. I have checked the prices of new computers and a good one will cost about PhP20, 000 to PhP30, 000. I am not prepared to shell out that amount of money during this time.
I know that this is just a temporary relief. Sooner or later, I will need to purchase a new computer. But at least, I was able to buy some time. It’s now time for belt-tightening so I can save for a new computer.
I can only say “Thank you” to all my friends, visitors and EC droppers who kept on visiting this blog even in my absence. A special thanks goes out to those who left their comments, I really appreciate it.
It really feels great to be back!

My computer is busted!
I’m actually writing this post on someone else’s computer and I only have 30 minutes to spare, lol. My beloved computer has gave up on me again. This is not the first time, I’m actually getting use to it. I’ve had this machine 8 years ago, yeah I know it’s Jurassic, but I upgraded the processor and the memory. Lately, it seems like it has a mind of its own, sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes it just doesn’t work. When it was playing up, I only needed to wiggle the IDE cables, swap the ribbons and the hard drives and it will work again. But it has been working seamlessly for the last couple of months until yesterday when it went kaput.
It was working Tuesday morning but when I got home from the office yesterday afternoon, it was not booting up and I can not fix it even after 4 hours of tinkering with the machine. It’s going into a repetitive start up and I later on discovered that it is not detecting the hard drives or the CD-ROM. Sometimes it will detect one of my two hard drives or the CD ROM but then if you will swap the IDE cables; it will not detect anything at all. I suspect that there’s something wrong with the motherboard. I am not an expert or I may have become rusty, but at least I know something about PC troubleshooting. Some of my friends would normally seek my assistance when it comes to their PC problems.
But now I’m clueless on how to fix my computer, hehehe. I guess I will have to buy a new PC or a laptop but that will hurt my savings account nicely. And it’s not a top priority as I’m also saving for my house construction next month.
Well, I’ll see if a local technician can fix this problem with minimal cost. I’m crossing my fingers now.
In the meantime, I will not be able to respond to your comments and reciprocate your visits or EC drops. Please accept my apologies. I'll get back to you when this has been sorted out.
That’s all for now. A wonderful day to all of you!

I was tagged again!
I was tagged yesterday by Melissa, the leader of our Blogging for Fun group. I love to do tags occasionally because it gives me an easy topic to write about, but this one is not easy as I need to reveal a couple of things about myself hahaha.
Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person or persons who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random and/or revealing things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog
6. Let the tagger know when your post entry is up on your site.
So here are a couple of revealing things about myself:
1. My real name is not Leomar. It is only my pseudonym. It is a combination of my Zodiac sign and my nickname. I started using this pseudonym when I was in college. I also used the name when I was writing for magazines and comic scripts in the vernacular. I got the idea from my classmate in high school who first used this pseudonym. He was also born as a Leo and he also uses Mar as his nick name. So when we graduated from high school and we were no longer classmates, I took the liberty of using the pen name as my own.
2. Okay, this has been mentioned above. I used to write comic scripts and magazines in the Filipino language. My first short story was published in “Liwayway”, the oldest existing Filipino magazine in the Philippines, when I was still 16 years old. And believe it or not, I also wrote romance novels at one point and some were published. Now, you can laugh, hahaha.
3. My first job was as a warehouseman on a department store in Quezon City. I was still in college then but I needed to work to help in our family’s finances.
4. If you have been following this blog, you know that I’m working as a call center agent. So I’m being paid to talk but outside of my work, I don’t speak much. I’d rather listen to other people’s discussions. I am more of an observer and I don’t want to be the center of attention.
5. I’m the youngest of four children. I have two sisters and a brother. My mother was already on her early forties when she gave birth to me.
6. You can call my teenage life as boring but honestly, I never tried any illegal drugs during my teenage years. I don’t smoke either. I know, it’s dull but I just don’t get the hang of it.
Well that’s it. I hope I didn’t bore you. Now I have to pass this on to six other people.

My Top 10 Emerging Influential blogs for 2009
A blogger friend Badong introduced me to the Top 10 Emerging Influential blogs for 2009 when he included me in his personal list. I didn’t know that this award exists but I was very much honored with the nomination. Unfortunately, when I checked the website of the organizer, it was then that I read that one criterion to be eligible for a nomination is that the blog should be created from May 1, 2008 to the present. This blog started last April of 2008. So I’m definitely not qualified.
Nevertheless, I am posting my own list as I would like to express my support for this endeavor as it not only honors bloggers but it also inspires us to make a difference in our continued efforts to express our thoughts, share our knowledge and insights to the world. Besides, I also received requests from fellow bloggers who wanted me to consider them in case I decide to post my own list for this award. It's hard to say no to such requests hehehe.
Please note that I will only be listing blogs that are eligible for the award based on the organizer’s criteria. There are so many great blogs out there but there are only few new blogs that stand out. In fact, I already have a complete list of top 10 about a week ago (before I got sick) but I decided to remove one blog from the list. The reason? I commented on this blogger’s article about a week ago and I didn’t even receive a reply. So I will have to put my nomination for this particular blog on hold, hehehe.
So without further ado, here is my personal pick for the top 10 Emerging Influential blogs for 2009. This is not yet final as I can still update this list until August 2 based on the rules.
1. The Joys of Simple Life
2. Femme Power
3. Zorlone
4. Xprosaic's World
5. Dear Bloggery
6. The Struggling Blogger
7. Writing To Exhale
8. Jologs na Yuppie
9. Kelvinonian Ideas 2.0
10.

Dare to take a personality quiz?
Have you taken a personality test or a personality quiz lately? Well, I was dropping Entrecards yesterday when I stumbled upon a blog post from Wiggy with a link on a personality test that he just took. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the link and took the quiz. I remember taking a similar quiz when I was still in high school.
You can also take the quiz HERE.
Here’s my results:
Your view of yourself:
You are intelligent, honest and sweet. You are friendly to everybody and don't like conflict. Because you're so cheerful and fun people are naturally attracted to you and like to talk to you.
The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:
You are a true romantic. When you are in love, you will do anything and everything to keep your love true.
Your readiness to commit to a relationship:
You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you meet that person.
The seriousness of your love:
You like to flirt and behave seductively. The opposite sex finds this very attractive, and that's why you'll always have admirers hanging off your arms. But how serious are you about choosing someone to be in a relationship with?
Your views on education
Education is very important in life. You want to study hard and learn as much as you can.
The right job for you:
You have plenty of dream jobs but have little chance of doing any of them if you don't focus on something in particular. You need to choose something and go for it to be happy and achieve success.
How do you view success:
You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous.
What are you most afraid of:
You are afraid of having no one to rely on in times of trouble. You don't ever want to be unable to take care of yourself. Independence is important to you.
Who is your true self:
You are mature, reasonable, honest and give good advice. People ask for your comments on all sorts of different issues. Sometimes you might find yourself in a dilemma when trapped with a problem, which your heart rather than your head needs to solve.

Saturday Saved The Best for Last - Snow World at Star City
A fellow blogger, Lainy from Lainy’s Musings invited me to participate in a new meme entitled Saturday Saved- The Best for Last.
I was not able to join the first round last week but I promised her that I will participate in this week’s round. I think this is a brilliant idea and an opportunity for us to showcase our articles that we think deserves wider readership. The good thing about this meme is we can feature articles from our archives.
This week’s featured article is my trip to the Snow World at Star City.
One of the major attractions inside the Star City is the Snow World where you get to experience winter in the Philippines. It’s like entering a giant freezer with about 15 degrees Celsius below zero temperature. Based on press releases, it is one of the biggest man-made snow attractions in the world.
Well, I didn’t want to miss the experience so I took a peek inside and I can tell you that it’s worth it.
They will let you use jackets but there are also cold weather gears that are being sold at very high prices. Then one of the staff will give you directions on how to behave inside, before they open the door.
As expected, you will see snow everywhere inside. At least, this is the closest that you can get for a winter experience. On the left hand side, you will see different ice carvings and sculptures which were all magnificent. Just make sure that you don’t get too excited and break any of the ice sculptures as it could cost you P500.
On the right hand side from the entrance, you will see the ice slide which I read was the longest ice slide in Asia. Donna’s nephew and I tried it and it was a great deal of fun.
We didn’t last longer than 10 minutes as Donna’s nephew can no longer endure the cold temperature. We were practically pounding the closed door of the exit area just to get out. My fingers were getting numb and my nose felt that it's about to bleed.
One word of caution though, the snow is slippery and the flooring is so hard that in case you will slip off the snow, it will surely be a painful thump.
It’s unfortunate that taking pictures with your digital cameras or cell phones are not allowed inside. They let you bring your gadgets with you in a plastic bag but you are not allowed to use it. I also didn’t want to risk violating the rule and end up with a malfunctioning digital camera. However, they have a photographer stationed inside so anytime you want to have your photo taken, you can simply approach him. Of course, you will have to shell out more money, hehehe.
We had to enter the second time to have this souvenir photo taken.
You’re invited to join Saturday Saved – The Best For Last. Showcase the Post you prefer for more readership. Grab this code at [[ WmotH ]] Saturday Saved-The Best For Last is meant for Saturday Saved participants only

A new layout.
How often should we change our blog layout? Is there a set standard on how many times we should change our template in a year? I don’t think there is but if you have answers to these questions, your feedback is highly appreciated.
What made me asked these questions? If you haven’t noticed, I have a new blog layout. This is actually the third template that I have used this year. I didn’t plan it, I was prepared to keep my blog’s layout until I find a better one. Honestly, I have come to love this layout. It is just disappointing when you see another blog who has the same template as the one you are using. But since you cannot claim ownership of the template, you cannot do anything about it.
One day, when I was visiting my favorite blogs and dropping Entrecards, I commented on Carlota’s blog who was then hosting a contest for her fellow bloggers. The prize? A custom layout. I have always wanted to have a custom layout but I was not prepared to pay for it hehehe. Obviously, I was one of the winners and you are now looking at my prize.
Well, thanks to Carlota for all the hard work and creativity that she had put in to come up with this layout. She definitely exceeded all of my expectations. I just love the header!
Here is this blog’s evolution:
This is the first template that I have used this year. I like the header but the body is quite dull.
I installed this layout on the 8th of February 2009 and it has since played a significant role in the success and failures of this blog. However, it is time to say goodbye to this layout.
So what do you think of my new layout?
