Last Saturday marked the return of the Sykes Year End Party unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the occasion. My colleagues who attended the party gave positive comments about the party. Of course there were also complaints but that is expected.
Anyway, the event made the news over the weekend. Here's one from abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Call center holds biggest Christmas party in the country
abs-cbnNEWS.com
MANILA, Philippines - Sykes has started to celebrate news that the Philippines has overtaken India as world’s top location for call centers.
The firm held its biggest ever Christmas party last Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds with a record breaking attendance of more than 9000 call center agents.
The party, called “One Sykes,” symbolizes the firm’s commitment to the local industry.
Dean Van Ormer, senior director for Philippine operations, said: “We’ll continue to have stronger presence in the Philippines…to be the employer of choice for Filipinos.”
The firm recently purchased rival ICT Group through a cash-and-stock deal worth $263 million. This paved the way for the firm to tap further the potential of the domestic market.
Industry analysts earlier said the steady supply of English-speaking college graduates as well as strong support from the government allowed the industry to overtake India in terms of revenues.
One of the event’s highlights was a spectacular fireworks display from the people behind World Pyro Olympics. The Pyro Theater Show incorporated lights, sounds, fireworks and live performances from local talents.
The Sykes employees also presented a unity mob dance, one of the night’s highlights. While dancing, the employees held on to a chain of light “to signify their being one as Sykes and their higher ambitions for the years to come.”

Web hosting hub
More and more people are discovering the joys of blogging every day. In fact, I have friends and acquaintances that recently have embarked on their own blogging journey. No wonder as everyone has a story to tell and emotions to express.
A friend who just started blogging asked me if it is best to get the services of a web hosting company this early in their blogging journey. I said to her that if she really wants to take blogging seriously then getting her own web host is a sensible investment. However, I told her that I know some people who were all excited when they started blogging but then slowly lose the focus and enthusiasm after a few months of blogging. So I told her that she can try any of the free blogging platforms first and then if she is sure that she’s really into blogging then migrate the free domain into her own custom domain and get the services of a web hosting company. This is what I did for this blog which now has its own custom domain.
I also warned my friend not to be fooled by the myriad of web hosting companies in the market. I told her that it is best to get acquainted with the many features and benefits that she should be looking for a reliable blog web hosting service. I advise her to compare the web hosting plans of different providers as well as the reviews from real customers. I even gave her a website for a web hosting hub to help her decide on the best web hosting provider that will suit her needs. I told her that there are cheap but reliable web hosting services out there. There are also blog hosting services which cater to beginning bloggers and those that are running multiple blogs like me. When creating your blog, you can now choose between WordPress or b2evolution which is best for bloggers who have multiple blogs. I find it pretty cool. I wished I had known about this when I was looking for a web hosting company.
Well, blogging is a continuous journey. Surely, there are lots of things that we can learn as we go along. The challenge is for us to learn from our past mistakes and to keep on going despite of all the challenges ahead.

On vacation
Life is full of uncertainties. You can never say what will happen next.
That makes life exciting. We will surely encounter failures and triumphs as we journey through life. Yes, you may experience a couple of setbacks but these are not reasons or excuses to stop reaching for our goals and purpose in life.
I just wrote on my last post that I intend to write more often on my two blogs for the rest of the year but reading the title of this post will give you the idea that what I initially planned is not going to happen. Yes, I have decided to go on a blogging vacation so you'll not be seeing any updates on this blog for the next 3 or 4 weeks. I hope it will be shorter than that but I have learned my lessons so I will not make promises that I cannot deliver. I'll be back when I am ready.
I would like to thank all the visitors and fellow bloggers who continue to visit this blog.
Thank you to all my fellow Entrecard droppers who continue to drop their cards on this blog. I am sorry that I will not be able to reciprocate your drops while I'm on vacation.
I also would like to apologize to my fellow Blogging for Fun Yahoo group members as I have not been able to visit some of my fellow members' blogs in the last couple of weeks and in the next few weeks. I'll make it up to you when I'm back.
That's all for now. I'm actually writing this post on an internet cafe. I'll give you the real story when I'm back.
Thank you and Goodbye for now!

Moving On.
As of writing, it’s 49 days to go before Christmas and 55 days to go before the New Year! Whew, time flies really fast, right? Before we know it, we are again saying hello to a brand new year and goodbye to 2010. I now hear Christmas songs on the radio and some neighboring houses now boast of their Christmas trees and decors in time for the season.
There’s really not much that we can do about it, whether we like it or not, the days will pass. What we can only do is to make the most out of our lives. There’s no use to brood and think of all the mistakes and failures that we have done in the past. What’s done is done. There are only two words that we can do: MOVE ON! Of course, let’s learn our lessons from past mistakes; apologize for the people we have wronged but ultimately we have to move on. The faster we realize that it is just a waste of energy to live in the past is the better for us.
There’s not much activity on this blog for the past few months. I wished I could have done better but what is done is done. What I can only do is to end the year differently. I intend to post more often on this blog and the other for the next couple of weeks until the end of the year and I hope I can sustain it until next year. In fact, I may start changing a couple of things in terms of the over-all appearance of my two blogs. I already started changing the layout of my other blog yesterday and I thought it was a good thing. I am also thinking of changing the layout for this blog but I’m still looking for a better template. I have come to love this custom layout but some people are saying that I should change my blog’s layout from time to time. Well, I will not touch it until I have a better one to replace it with.
That's all for now. Let's all have a lovely weekend!!

Complementing email and social networking for small businesses
Running a small business can be tough. Reaching out to customers can be difficult as these businesses don’t have the money that multinational firms spend on advertising and marketing. Even with the advent of online marketing, small businesses are still on the disadvantage as they don’t have the resources to maximize all the information that they have and create connections with prospective customers.
Sure, you may have an email list and you may have been sending emails to prospective customers but emails don’t always convert to sales. Although some may respond to emails, some of the marketing emails may end up in the spam folders because you simply don’t have the necessary information about these people apart from their email addresses. You don’t know these peoples’ interests or their demographics, you don’t know if these people will be able to use the services or products that your business offers.
However, with the rising popularity of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, email marketing can now be complemented by making connections through these social networks. More and more businesses now employ social marketing campaign.
But how can you successfully connect with customers everywhere in the web if you only have their email addresses? This is the problem and it seems that Flowtown now has the answer. Flowtown is a platform designed to help businesses connect with customers in the social web. Using only an email address, they can now get information like the name, age, gender, occupation, location and the social networking sites where the person is hanging out on the web. Businesses are also given tools to interact with these customers.
So if you’re a small business owner making funny T-shirts and going through your email lists you discovered that you have more customers who are using Twitter compared to Facebook, then you will know where to exert more efforts in your social networking campaigns.
Change is constant. Just like anything in this world, the way we are doing business is constantly changing. The ability to adapt to these changes can spell the difference in the success or failure of any business endeavors.

ABS-CBN formally jump-starts its Christmas campaign with the recent launch of its Christmas station ID which was aired during “TV Patrol” last Thursday, November 4.
Coming from last year’s award-winning “Bro, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko,” the newest station music video dubbed as “Ngayong Pasko, Magniningning ang Pilipino” will rekindle the light of unity and honor Filipinos’ commitment to change.
Participated by the biggest and the brightest Kapamilyas from the different platforms of ABS-CBN – Entertainment, News and Current Affairs, ANC, DZMM and Tambayan 101.9, and the Regional Network Group— the station dedicates this year’s Christmas Station ID to all those who continue to bring pride and honor to the country with their world-class talents and skills, like Journey frontman Arnel Pineda and international pop star Charice.
The theme song “Ngayong Pasko, Magniningning ang Pilipino” sung by Gary Valenciano and Toni Gonzaga, features the University of Santo Tomas Singers conducted by Prof. Fidel G. Calalang Jr. The group won 10 grand prizes this year alone from musical competitions in Poland, Spain and Northern Ireland, including the Choir of the World – Luciano Pavarotti Trophy at the 63rd Llangollen International Music Festival in Wales, UK.
The song was written by Jordan Constantino, with music by Lloyd Corpuz, arranged and produced by Eric Perlas. The 2010 Christmas SID was created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management.

MYX Daily Top 10 – November 5, 2010 Featuring "U Smile" by Justin Bieber (Lyrics and video)
Another local band has managed to clinch the number one spot on Friday’s MYX Daily top 10. “What’s Your Poison” by Chicosci jumped to number 1 from Thursday’s number 3 standing overtaking “U Smile” by popular international singer Justin Bieber who has to settle for the second spot.
Erstwhile number 1 song “Lakad” is still doing well at number 3 but the only other local band on the countdown, “Pakiusap Lang (Lasingin Niyo Ako)” by Parokya ni Edgar is on its way out of the countdown and is now at number 10.
I intend to feature the number one song in the countdown today but I can’t find its music video on YouTube. So I’m featuring the second song instead although I’m not a fan of Justin Bieber.
Let us all enjoy our weekend!!

Celebrating a birthday on Halloween.
Happy Halloween to all!
And happy birthday to my father who is celebrating his 74th birthday today! Yep, while the rest of the world is commemorating Halloween, our family is celebrating our father's birthday. There's every reason to celebrate as my father has reached this milestone in his life and he is blessed with good health, a healthy body and a sound mind. Not everybody is given the privilege to celebrate his or her 70th year on this earth much less the 74th so for this we are full of gratitude.
Happy birthday, Tatay!!!
Still on Halloween, if you’re wondering what the term Halloween means, I did a bit of research for you. According to Wikipedia, it is shortened from All Hallows' Even (both "even" and "eve" are abbreviations of "evening," but "Halloween" gets its "n" from "even") as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day," which is of course now also known as the All Saints' Day. It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions.
The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.
So this is where this celebration originated… Again, happy Halloween to all!

Ooooooooohh
Ooooooooohh
Can you feel me
When I think about you
With every breath I take
Every minute
No matter what I do
My world is an empty place
Like I've been wonderin the desert
For a thousand days ( ohhuh )
Don't know if it's a mirage
But I always see your face, baby
I'm missing you so much
Can't help it, I'm in love
A day without you is like a year without rain
I need you by my side
Don't know how I'll survive
A day without you is like a year without rain
Ohhohoh, Woooaaahh woaahh
The stars are burning
I hear your voice in my mind ( it's in my mind )
Can't you hear me calling
My heart is yearning
Like the ocean that's running dry
Catch me I'm falling
It's like the ground is crumbling underneath my feet
Won't you save me
There's gonna be a monsoon
When you get back to me
Ohhhh baby
I'm missing you so much
Can't help it, I'm in love (love)
A day without you is like a year without rain
I need you by my side (side)
Don't know how I'll survive
A day without you is like a year without rain
Ohhohoh, Woooaaahh woaahh
So let this drought come to an end
And may this desert flower again
I'm so glad you found me
Stick around me
baby,baby,baby,whoaa
It's a world
No wonder
With you in my life
So Hurry baby, Don't waste no more time
And I need you here
I can't explain
But a day without you
Is like a year without rain
Ohhohoh
I'm missing you so much (much)
Can't help it, I'm in love
A day without you is like a year without rain
I need you by my side (side)
Don't know how I'll survive
A day without you is like a year without rain
Ohhohoh, Woooaaahh woaahh
Ooohh, Ooooooooouuhh

Below are the lyrics and video of the number 1 song in the countdown, "Pakiusap Lang" (Lasingin Niyo Ako) by Pinoy band Parokya Ni Edgar:
Sino pa bang hinihintay, ba't di pa tayo sumakay?
Excited na'kong umalis, sige na please, konting bilis
Saan ba tayo pupunta?, kahit saan, bahala na
Wala akong baong extra brief, pwedeng side B 'tas auto flip
Biglaan, wala nang oras pa na pagtaluhan
Gusto ko na kasi siyang kalimutan
Kaya't pakibilisan
Saan man tayo magpunta, walang sablay, sobrang saya
Kahit saan tayo mapadpad, basta may baon na lapad
Kailangan ko na munang mag-relax ng lalamunan
Tapos magpakalunod sa alak ang pusong pagod
Biglaan, biglaan niya na lang akong iniwan
Gusto ko lamang siyang makalimutan
Kaya nagkayayaan

Online Business Name Registration system unveiled.
One of the issues that President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino mentioned during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) was the seemingly endless process of business registration in the Philippines. An applicant used to make a few visits to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other government agencies and had to endure long queues and wait for 4 to 8 hours just to register his business. He also needs to fill out eight pages of the application form.
It appears that this dilemma will soon be a thing of the past as the President unveiled yesterday a faster Business Name Registration System (eBNRS) at the DTI – National Capital Region Area 3 office in Mandaluyong City. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) headed by Sec. Gregory Domingo demonstrated to President Aquino how they have expedited the formerly tedious process.
Under the new system, it will now take an applicant a maximum of 15 minutes and P300 to get a business name. And the eight page application form the applicants need to fill out has been reduced to one.
The purpose of the automation was to minimize the people handling the process and let technology speed up the transaction. Businessmen can now apply their registration names at the barangay level, and renewals are now done “automatically.”
I believe that this is a big step towards creating a business-friendly environment thus attracting foreign and local investments. This online business registration only shows the government’s commitment to the public by giving entrepreneurs less hassle in doing business. It also makes government transactions transparent which can help prevent corruption in the workplace.

A Run for the Pasig River makes history.
Whoever said that there’s no more hope for the Filipino people should think again. The success of the recently concluded “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River” is a proof that if Filipinos will unite, nothing is impossible.
The fun run, which aimed to create awareness and raise funds for the Pasig River cleanup campaign, made history and could also be the world’s biggest advocacy race with the number of race participants estimated at between 120,000 to 140,000 runners, according to Kapit Bisig Para Sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP), the event organizer.
People from all walks of life showed unity as contingents from schools, religious groups, government agencies, the police and military, non-government organizations, business sector, and private institutions made up the enormous crowd that gathered at the run’s three starting points at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA), the CCP Complex, and Ayala Avenue in Makati.
They said that initial figures from SyCip, Gorres, Velayo & Co. (SGV), the country’s biggest accounting firm, placed the total number of official race starters at 116,812 but once authenticated, it may break the Guinness World Record of 110,000 runners at the "Bay to Breakers" race in San Francisco, California in 1988.
KBPIP is hoping to raise between P10 million to P12 million from the event to finance cleanup at Estero de San Miguel, a tributary of the Pasig River.
In 2009, KBPIP began dredging operations and relocation of informal settlers at Estero De Paco, which also flows into the Pasig River.
ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez said that in order to successfully clean the river, people must first clean water that flows into it, and change the way people look at the river through events such as the 10.10.10 run.

10.10.10, A Special Day?
Today is the 10th day of the 10th month of 2010. The reason why this day has received quite a lot of attention is only because of the quirk of the date reading 10/10/10. At 10 minutes and 10 seconds past 10 in the morning today, the date and time even read 10.10.10.10.10.10. They said that this phenomenon will only happen again after 100 years. No wonder why there was even a rumor that a 10.10.10 virus will strike at 10 am today and will shut down all computers.
Another interesting fact about the month of October is that this month has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and Five Sundays. They said that this happens only once in 823 years, based on a text message that I received. They said that these are money bags in Chinese Fengshui.
Yes, some religious people and other cultures may associate these days to good luck, numerologists have their own interpretations of these numbers.
For me this is just another ordinary day. I guess the important thing is for us to live our lives to the fullest. Everyday is a gift so let’s treasure every day of our lives.
May this day be a fruitful and productive day for each one of us!

A lesson in blogging.
One thing that I’ve learned from my over two years of blogging is that it is a continuous learning experience. You learn new tricks and tips every step of the way which will help you improve on your craft. You can never claim that you have mastered this art. There’s always something to learn which will make a blogger’s journey more exciting.
One of the things that I learned from other bloggers is to get my own custom domain and get the services of a web host if I want to take blogging seriously especially if I want to monetize it or accept paid advertising. I was convinced that it was a necessary expense so I got myself a custom domain for one of my blogs.
However, the decision was not easy. I didn’t want to make mistakes and regret my decision mainly because I needed to shell out my hard-earned money for the web hosting service. So what I did first is I searched the web for all information related to web hosting. I compared different webhosts to make sure that I will get the best deal. I even checked the best hosting awards as this will reflect who among the existing web hosting providers have proven themselves by delivering exceptional services to their customers.
The good thing is there’s never a dearth of information in terms of the latest trends and articles about web hosting. I found various web hosting tutorials and articles that helped me a lot in deciding what web hosting provider really suits my blogging needs. These articles also gave me the much needed basic information about web hosting.
It’s been almost a year since I signed up for the web hosting service and I can bluntly say that I have no regrets. My web hosting provider is working as it should and I am satisfied with the service.
Just like any other activities that you want to get yourself into, you should make it a point to get acquainted with the basics of this endeavor first before you plunge yourself headfirst into it. It doesn’t hurt to study and plan your actions and options.

Below is the lyrics and a video of the number 2 song in the countdown, "Something 'Bout Love' by David Archuleta:
Every night it’s all the same
You’re frozen by the phone
You wait, something’s changed
You blame yourself every day
You’d do it again
Every night
There’s something ’bout love
That breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh
It sets you free
There’s something ’bout love
That tears you up
Whoa oh oh oh
You still believe
When the world falls down like the rain
It’ll bring you to your knees
There’s something ’bout love that breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh…
But don’t give up
There’s something ’bout love
When you were young
Scared of the night
Waiting for love to come along
And make it right
Your day will come, the past is gone
So take your time
And live and let live
There’s something ’bout love
That breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh
It sets you free
There’s something ’bout love
That tears you up
Whoa oh oh oh
You still believe
When the world falls down like the rain
It’ll bring you to your knees
There’s something ’bout love that breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh…
But don’t give up
There’s something ’bout love
Don’t fight
Don’t hide
Those stars in your eyes (in your eyes)
Let em’ shine tonight
Let em’ shine tonight
Hang on
Hang in
For the ride of your life
It’s gonna be alright
Hold on tight
There’s something ’bout love
That breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh
There’s something ’bout love
That breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh
It sets you free
There’s something ’bout love
That tears you up
Whoa oh oh oh
You still believe
When the world falls down like the rain
It’ll bring you to your knees (to your knees)
There’s something ’bout love that breaks your heart
Whoa oh oh oh…
But don’t give up
There’s something ’bout love
Whoa oh oh oh..
Set’s you free

Tracing people online
With the advent of the information technology, life has become a lot easier for all of us. You can now do shopping at the comfort of your home. Communication has become a lot faster and easier with the advent of chat and electronic mail as you can now communicate with friends and family members even if they are on the other side of the world. The popularity of social networking sites even raise the way people connect to another level. The Business landscape was also impacted by this technological advancement. You can now do business online, transact with your bank and exchange information with your customers or clients. These things were unimaginable in the past.
As if these things are not enough, recently I learned that you can now even search for people online. I’m not referring to Facebook or any networking sites where I found some of my long lost friends and relatives. What I am referring to are professional genealogy firms which are specializing in locating people including missing and unknown heirs, relatives even with no known next of kin. These are especially helpful to lawyers and trustees who are often faced with the formidable task to trace people and locate missing beneficiaries. One of these probate genealogy firm is a London-based Finders which has been in the business since 1997. This firm is dedicated to give a fresh approach to finding missing people.

Below are the lyrics and video of the number 3 song in the countdown, "Just The Way You Are" by Bruno Mars:
Oh her eyes, her eyes
Make the stars look like they're not shining
Her hair, her hair
Falls perfectly without her trying
She's so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Yeah I know, I know
When I compliment her
She wont believe me
And its so, its so
Sad to think she don't see what I see
But every time she asks me do I look okay
I say
When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are
Her nails, her nails
I could kiss them all day if she'd let me
Her laugh, her laugh
She hates but I think its so sexy
She's so beautiful
And I tell her every day
Oh you know, you know, you know
Id never ask you to change
If perfect is what you're searching for
Then just stay the same
So don't even bother asking
If you look okay
You know I say
When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change
Cause you're amazing
Just the way you are
And when you smile,
The whole world stops and stares for awhile
Cause girl you're amazing
Just the way you are
The way you are
The way you are
Girl you're amazing
Just the way you are
When I see your face
There's not a thing that I would change

Charice ranked number 4 in Billboard’s “Top Stars Under 21” List
There’s no stopping Filipina international singing sensation Charice as she continues to reap praises and recognition in the international music scene. After her successful debut on the pilot episode of the second season of “Glee”, Charice was ranked number 4 in Billboard.com’s “21 Under 21:Music Hottest Minors.”
The artists included in the list were chosen for their potential to rule the pop culture zeitgeist over the next 12 months. Billboard explained that the help of Oprah Winfrey who plucked the Filipina sensation from obscurity two years ago and the US hit musical series "Glee" season 2 makes Charice really "hot."
Last Wednesday, a day after her successful debut on the hit musical series “Glee,” two of the songs he sang in the series landed in the iTunes Top 10 lists in the US. Her version of “Telephone (Lady Gaga and Beyonce)" with "Glee"'s Lea Michele reached the number 2 spot while her solo performance of “Listen” (Beyonce) landed on the number 8 spot.
Here’s what the Billboard article said about Charice:
“Why She's Hot: Oprah and "Glee": They're two of TV's most powerful zeitgeist-definers, and both have fallen head over heels for Charice Pempengco. Credit the Queen of All Media for plucking the Filipina sensation from obscurity two years ago and introducing her to Celine Dion.
"The hype finally paid off this spring, when Charice debuted in the Billboard 200 top 10 with her first US album. But it's Fox's high school musical hit, in which she now plays a foreign exchange student with killer pipes to match Rachel Berry's, where Charice will show millions of geeks that she can out-sing the best of them.”
Below is the complete list of Billboard.com's Music's Hottest Minors
21. Sean Kingston 20. Cody Simpson 19. Nikki Yanofsky 18. New Boyz 17. Never Shout Never 16. Wonder Girls 15. Diggy Simmons 14. Miranda Cosgrove 13. Chris Colfer 12. Taylor Momsen 11. Lex Luger 10. Below are the lyrics and video of the number 1 song in the countdown, "Mine" by Taylor Swift:
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables
Left a small town and never looked back
I was a flight risk, afraid of fallin'
Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts
I say, "Can you believe it?"
As we're lyin' on the couch
The moment, I can see it
Yes, yes, I can see it now
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the fist time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together
And there's a drawer of my things at your place
You learn my secrets and figure out why I'm guarded
You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
But we got bills to pay
We got nothin' figured out
When it was hard to take
Yes, yes
This is what I thought about:
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water?
You put your arm around me for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Do you remember all the city lights on the water?
You saw me start to believe for the first time
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Oh, oh, oh, oh
And I remember that fight, two-thirty AM
You said everything was slipping right out of our hands
I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street
Braced myself for the goodbye, cause that's all I've ever known
Then, you took me by surprise
You said, "I'll never leave you alone."
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water.
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time.
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter.
She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter
You are the best thing that's ever been mine
Do you believe it?
We're gonna make it now
And I can see it
I can see it now

Getting a good sleep.
Who doesn’t want a good sleep? I don’t know about you but I really love a good sleep. I could sleep for 12 hours or more during my rest days as I’m lucky if I can sleep for 6 hours during work days. However, I was having difficulty sleeping for the past few weeks. I occasionally spend nights tossing and turning on my bed. I tried counting sheep only to find out that it doesn’t’ work for me.
They said that sleep requirements slightly vary from person to person but most adults need at least 8 hours of sleep to function at their best. I have long discovered that I need at least 6 hours of sleep at night for me to be at the peak of my performance. My mood suffers when I don’t get sufficient shut-eye. I can be easily irritated and can be disoriented at work if I don’t get enough sleep.
Sleeping strategies being offered by some self-help books and online references don’t always work. I guess it may work for some people but not for others. So the key is to experiment on what sleep strategies work best for you.
They said that the quality of your bedroom environment can spell a big difference in how well you sleep. They said that the key is to create an ambiance that is suitable for sleeping. This holds true for me since I usually do other stuffs in my bedroom like eating, watching TV or doing my online activities which may be the reason why it was hard for me to wind down at night. So what I did was I moved my desktop computer to a different room and my TV will soon follow. I intend to reserve my bedroom only for sleeping. This way, when I go to bed, my mind and body will get the cue that it’s time to sleep.
I am the kind of person who can’t sleep when the light is on. Even dim lights like those from a television or computer monitor can be my sleep enemies. The awful street light near our house has been pestering me for the past few weeks. Curtains are doing a poor job of blocking the light that shines through my window so I’m currently looking for roller blinds that can do a better job. I found a good number of styles and designs that would perfectly match my bedroom.
Setting a regular bedtime is also another strategy that works for some people. They go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every day. However, this is hard for those of us who have active schedules.
Eating the right food and regular exercise, stretching and relaxation, a warm bath before going to bed are some of the other tips that you can try that may just work for you. But if the issue persists, then consider visiting a doctor.

Today I heard them play the song again
An old familiar strain from way back when
Every note and every line
It’s always been a favorite song of mine
It used to haunt me so some years ago
Reminds me of a boy I used to know
And although the melody lives on
The memories and the boy are all but gone
And while the song still brings that certain glow
And the words still sing of love I know
It isn’t quite the way it was before
I remember the boy
But I don’t remember the feeling anymore
The promises we made seemed easier then
As if we knew our love would never end
But seasons change and time erases the tears
As quickly as the rivers disappear
So while the song still brings that certain glow
And the words still sing of love I know
It isn’t quite the way it was before
I remember the boy
But I don’t remember the feeling
I remember the boy
But I don’t remember the feeling anymore

September 10, 2010 is a legal holiday in RP
Students and most office workers should expect a long weekend ahead as September 10, 2010, Friday, has been declared as a regular legal holiday for the entire Philippines in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan), as per Republic Act No. 9177.
Eid ul-Fitr, often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiá¹r means "to purify"; and so the holiday symbolizes the purification after completing the fasting month which is after the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan.
However, call center employees like me are expected to report to work. The good thing about this is that those who will report to work on this day will be compensated with an additional one hundred percent (100%) of their daily rates.
Although the majority of the population of the Philippines are Christians, the country has recognized Eid ul-Fitr as a regular holiday by virtue of Republic Act No. 9177 which was signed on November 13, 2002. The law was enacted in deference to the Muslim-Filipino community and to promote peace among major religions in the Philippines .

A simple birthday celebration
I have always viewed birthdays as gifts. Considering the uncertainties of life and sometimes the shortness of it, we can only be thankful when we get to celebrate another birthday.
Last Saturday was my birthday and it was celebrated sans any fanfare. It was my choice. I normally go on vacation leave on my birthdays except last year when I opted to spend it at work for a change. But since this time it fell on my rest day, I filed a vacation leave the day before to give myself a treat. It was my first self-imposed vacation leave for the year after all. I didn’t have plans, I didn’t invite anybody; I intended to spend the day resting, contemplating and let it pass.
In the back of my mind, I was wondering if Donna will let me get away with it. She was always up to something. Sure enough, she woke me up with a small cake that she designed all by herself. It wasn’t the best-tasting cake ever designed but I appreciate the gesture. Her friends and co-workers even dropped by to celebrate with us. My sister and her children also arrived to greet me. It was a simple celebration but I couldn’t ask for more.
This birthday was a reminder that I have a lot of things to be thankful for. I have a job, good health and a very supportive partner who loves me unconditionally. My parents are both in good health in their seventies. God has been good to me all these years and I am very thankful for all the blessings that I have received especially for life itself.
I don’t know what lies ahead for me this year. I don’t know what the future holds. But I am positive that God has plans for me. The Bible said: “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Thank you for visiting and May God richly bless us all!

Custom Writing Services.
When I was still a student, there were times when I would spend sleepless nights to accomplish all my school projects and assignments. We would be asked to do book reviews, essays, and sometimes we would be asked to do class reporting and a whole lot of projects all at the same time. We don’t have a computer then and no internet as an ally so I would spend countless hours at the school library for research and would sleep over my friend’s house that had a computer to accomplish my school projects. Oftentimes, I could barely meet my deadlines.
Students today are a lot luckier. Computers have become a necessity in every household. Some students even have their own laptop. They can work on their school projects at their own pace. There’s no need to visit the library for information that can be provided by various search engines. If they are expecting a large workload and in desperate need to meet the deadline, availing of various online writing services is another option. There are now websites offering custom essay writing services. While it would be best and ideal for students to do their own projects and essays and to manage their time effectively to meet their deadlines, there were times when the workload and other factors will not allow this.
Even professionals who are in need of essays can benefit from custom essay writing services. There are those who are in need of art essay. Not everybody has a gift in writing. Some can’t seem to express themselves on paper. We all have our own specialization and forte after all. Some are brilliant in technical stuffs but would cringe when they were asked to write their ideas. Even seasoned writers at times can struggle with writing. So why not just delegate this task and ask other people to do it for you. Anyway, if you can not do certain jobs properly, why not ask someone to do it for you?
However, you have to ensure that when you choose an online writing service, you are getting your money’s worth. Why pay for sub-standard jobs? You have to turn to the company that has been in the custom essay writing market for years and has gained reputation as top quality and reliable writing service provider. There are writing services that can tackle any topics or research questions in all fields of endeavor. You are sure that they can meet all requirements in terms of contents, outline and format like those of the MLA format essay. Some even boast of custom essay writers that at least have a Master’s degree in their respective field of specialization. I haven't tried their services but if you are in desperate need of custom essays, then it's probably worth a try.

Treasure in heaven
I heard a priest’s sermon yesterday and his message was crystal clear. Anything can happen to anyone anytime. Life is short, death is certain. So let’s be prepared. Let’s live a beautiful life every day and be a blessing and not a burden to other people. Whatever material possessions we have accumulated in this world will be left behind, so why bother?
Here is another story partly after the Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy about a rich man who thought that money would also be everything even in the after life:
A wealthy man lay on his deathbed. His entire life had been centered on money. As his life ebbed away, he presumed that in the afterlife, money would also be everything. So he gave orders that a purse filled with gold coins be placed inside his casket alongside his body. His last wish was carried out.
In the next world it took the bookkeepers a long time to find his name in any of the good books. In fact, it took so long that he got very hungry and thirsty just waiting. He looked around and sure enough, he saw an attractive eatery not far away. “Aha,” he said to himself, “ it’s just like what I thought. It’s a good thing that I brought some money along with me.”
His mouth was already watering as he approached the restaurant. But before he sat down to eat, he was told that the money he had brought along had no value now. In fact, the only money that was of any value now was the money he had given away on earth. The rich man dropped his head in deep thought, but could not remember having given any money away… so now he had none.
As an Englishman of another stripe let his tombstone explained:
“What I spend I had.
What I kept I lost.
What I gave I have.”

A culture of negativity.
Funny how one TV network operates, they are claiming to be unbiased, neutral and that they are not favoring or protecting anybody and yet they are hitting on their rival network on every opportunity that they get. This is very typical of second-rates. Their negative reporting belies all of their claims of credibility and neutrality. They are not any better than their rival news organization after all. At least, the other one doesn’t’ have any false claims.
Recently, this TV station gave us one good example on how they operate: Just because they did not get the exclusive video of the arrest (and the last few moments) of the leader of a notorious carjacking syndicate, they highlighted in their news reports the statement of a police officer blaming the news team of their rival network for the delay in bringing the suspect to a hospital which could have prevented his death. And they released the news report even after they failed to get the side of the other news team or the real story behind it. What is it for? To discredit the other news team for getting the exclusive video thereby creating doubts on the credibility of the other TV station? This doesn’t sound fair to me.
The other TV station later answered this accusation on their own news program showing the full exclusive video of what happened showing the same police officer asking the cameraman to take footages of the wounded suspect. And the video was not even close to one minute! A higher ranking police official was even interviewed and apologized for the tactless words of his subordinate. I wonder if the rival TV station also showed a similar news report or an interview on their news program.
There seems to be a culture of negativity in this TV network. Let's also look at how they market their news organization. They are claiming that they are neutral, that they are not favoring or protecting anybody and yet these attributes are all subjective. Why not let the people decide if you’re doing a great job or not? Is this some kind of deliberate brainwashing, auto-suggestion or something? Why the need for their anchors to repeatedly utter these words when these are expected of a big news organization like them? Unless they are insinuating that they have a monopoly of these and their rivals are doing the opposite then these words are just a waste of air time.
Just a couple of minutes ago, I chanced upon a news report in Yahoo from the same media outfit. It is entitled “Another journalist may join ranks of Aquino spokespersons” and yet there’s a statement at the end of the news item that caught my attention. It reads: “Lacierda had also skirmished with the Malacañang Press Corps twice in July for preempting major announcements to a private media network perceived to have supported Aquino’s presidential bid.” Whose perception was it? It didn't mention. I watched the other TV station the whole campaign period and I didn’t get a hint that they were favoring Noynoy Aquino. In fact, it was their news team who exposed the bogus psychiatric report of Aquino. It was even in their news program where it was shown and reported the son of Kris Aquino, Baby James blurting out the name of his uncle’s rival in a campaign sortie which caught the ire of the popular actress and sister of then presidential candidate Noynoy Aquino. It was even reported that Kris called this news team as “evil” or “devil” of some sort due to this incident. So I’m clueless on where this TV station got the notion that their rival network favored Aquino. Was it because the sister of Aquino is an employee of the rival network? How superficial!
The Philippines is in a new historical chapter. Everybody is talking about change. I guess media should follow suit especially. It doesn’t help that they are hitting on each other. There's what we call as healthy competition and what they are doing is not part of it.It is not even a good example to their viewers. Our children who watch TV most of the time should not be exposed to a culture of vindictiveness being played by these media organizations.

Using credit cards responsibly
A few months ago, I wrote an article on this blog about how to avoid financial problems where I offered a few tips on how to manage one’s finances. One of the advices that I gave was not to use credit cards. It was based on my personal observation that I only know a few people who are using their credit cards responsibly. The credit card is not the devil; it was designed for our convenience. But it is the misuse of this card which has put many lives in financial mess.
Unfortunately, unlike gadgets or tools, credit cards don’t come with user manuals. It would have been a lot better if your first credit card comes with a user guide offering suggestions on how you can use this card responsibly.
Most people fall into the trap of using their credit cards as a substitute for cash until they’ve reached their credit limits. They pay their everyday purchases in credit card not knowing that this will quickly lead them to debt. Some would use their credit cards to purchase luxury items that they cannot afford to pay in cash. This habit of living in borrowed lifestyle can quickly put someone in debt. If you cannot afford to pay something today, then there’s a big chance that you will have difficulty paying for it tomorrow.
I was told that it is best to pay as much as you can in your credit card balance each month and not to get the habit of making minimum payment only. This way, you not only saved yourself from paying more in interest but you will also pay your debt quicker and cheaper.
The bottom line is we should make wise decisions when spending our money or using our credit cards. When buying something, let’s ask ourselves if we really “need” to buy it or we simply “want” to have it. Let’s resist the temptation of buying something that we don’t really need especially if it is something that we cannot afford. Indeed, good credit card habits require self-discipline.

Practice what you preach
Let me share a story from "Quote" which I lifted from a compilation of stories entitled "The Next 500 stories." It is all about conviction.
An office equipment salesman persuaded a merchant to order five hundred ballpoint pens. He was writing the order in his notebook, when suddenly the merchant exclaimed, "Hold on! I'm canceling the order." He then turned to wait on a customer at the counter.
The salesman left the store wondering why the businessman had changed his mind.
Later, the merchant's bookkeeper asked, "Why did you cancel that order for ballpoint pens?"
"Why?" answered the man, rather angrily. "Because he talked ballpoints to me for a half-hour, using a number of convincing arguments, and then he wrote out my order with a pencil. His practice did not agree with his profession. I don't trust those kinds of people."
