GPS Tracking Devices.

Around the world, news and reports about stolen cars and theft of freight from the trailers and maritime shipments are rising. The escalating number of stolen cars in some countries paved the way for governments to pass laws to fight this crime and to easily recover stolen vehicles.

With the advent of modern technology, there are now ways to aid in tracing the location of stolen cars. One is the use of GPS or Global Positioning System to determine the precise location of a vehicle, person or any assets. GPS is a space-based global navigation satellite system that provides the accurate location and time information on anything connected to a GPS tracking device as long as there is line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It is freely accessible to anyone with a GPS server.

No wonder why GPS tracking devices are becoming more popular these days. These devices use GPS to determine the location of the asset where the device is attached and record the position at regular intervals. The power of this device makes it a valuable investigative tool for business and personal use. Because of its accuracy and reliability, it has been incorporated into some law enforcement agencies which usually required significant manpower and resources to monitor and locate vehicles.

One of the leading suppliers of state and municipal law enforcement agencies for their GPS Tracking devices is LandAirSea. It has pioneered the development of GPS-based surveillance technology since 1994. Its GPS tracking systems boast an accuracy of 2.5 meters horizontally and tracks the speed and duration of time in which a subject remains stationary. All of their GPS tracking units undergo extensive pre-development research and testing to ensure that customers are receiving products guaranteed to deliver real, measurable results.

There are several GPS Tracking systems to choose from but what caught my fancy was the GPS Tracking Key Pro by LandAirSea. It is a compact and very portable tracking unit that is slightly larger than two AA batteries that provides power to it. It can operate up to 80 hours on battery power which can be connected to a car’s main power supply.

I just hope that more and more law enforcement agencies and individuals from different countries will realize the value of this technology in locating and monitoring assets.

Lee DeWyze wins 'American Idol' 9

The Season 9 of the Fox TV show “American Idol” has ended and Lee DeWyze emerged as the winner. Dewyze beat out the season’s frontrunner, dreadlocked single mom Crystal Bowersox to bag the “Idol” crown.

DeWyze used to work at a paint shop in Chicago before he followed his dream to be a professional singer and joined the Fox TV singing competition.

The two-hour finale of the show included performances of Janet Jackson, Joe Cocker, Hall and Oats, Michael McDonald and Chicago. Kris Allen, Christina Aguilera, Carrie Underwood, Alanis Morrisette and Bret Michaels also performed in the star-studded final episode.

One of the show’s highlights featured former judge Paula Abdul who led the send-off for feisty judge Simon Cowell. Cowell is leaving “Idol” to host his own show “The X-Factor” next year.

Nicole Scherzinger wins "Dancing With the Stars”

Half-Filipina singer Nicole Scherzinger went on to win the Season 10 of the popular TV show “Dancing with the Stars” which many consider as the ABC’s best season yet. The Pussycat Doll singer beats Evan Lysacek for the mirror-balled trophy. The Olympic gold medalist wound up second and sports reporter Erin Andrews trailed in third.

The results might have seemed unsurprising as Scherzinger was the clear front-runner throughout most of the season. She and her partner Derek Hough ended the night with a perfect score of 30 and a total of 115 for the two final nights, Monday and Tuesday.

"Dancing With the Stars" in its 10th season featured contestants including former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, reality TV star Kate Gosselin and one-time Playboy model Pamela Anderson.

Scherzinger was born in Hawaii. Her biological father is a Filipino, and her mother is of Hawaiian and Russian descent.

Watch Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough dance the Jive to Proud Mary below.

"Pilipinas Got Talent" Featuring an Amazing Butterfly Act by Alakim

The Philippines is also the home of world-class magicians. This is what Alakim wants to prove when he performed and wowed the audience on the "Pilipinas Got Talent" stage. And true enough, he did not disappoint the audience. In fact, his amazing act earned himself a slot in the Finals of the biggest nationwide reality talent show in the Philippines.

I’ve watched this magician during the Auditions and I am one of the many spectators who were mesmerized by his butterfly act. Even one of the judges, Kris Aquino, who admitted that she was not fond of magic, was caught applauding the magician when he conjured butterflies out of rose petals.

It was not a unique magical act as I had already seen on YouTube a similar act performed by Rocco Silano. But what made Alakim’s magic exceptional was it was done in front of a live audience and judges, and he doesn’t have any control on what will be shown by the cameras. He even spiced up his performance on the Semifinals night when he also added other magical tricks like those of the doves. Watch his performance on the Semifinals and Audition nights below:

Let's share our blessings!

If we will only count our blessings, we will know that our lives are a lot better compared to other people living in poverty. Some people cannot even find stable jobs and had to eke out their finances to make both ends meet. Yes, we may have our share of problems but who doesn’t have one? What we should be thankful for is that we continue to receive blessings. And what is a better way to express our gratitude than to share our blessings? Just look around you and you will see a lot of people who badly need help.

The sad truth is even people who risked their lives to serve their country during wars now badly needed help. These people who were at the forefront of our fight to preserve peace and security in the country now make up a large portion of the poor and the homeless. Worse, some of them are handicapped and some are jobless.

It is a good thing that many organizations and generous donors are spearheading campaigns to help improve the quality of the lives of these veterans. Ordinary citizens can also lend a helping hand in whatever little way we can. It doesn’t have to be a monetary donation. Some organizations are accepting car donations. If you have an old car or truck, running or otherwise, stuck in your garage and you are unsure of what to do with it, why not just donate it? Your donations will help feed and treat the homeless veterans and improve the quality of their lives. They will also offer you car donation tax deduction wherein you will receive an IRS tax deductible donation receipt after they receive your donated vehicle.

One of these organizations is Vietnam Veterans of America which was chartered by Congress and has been in the forefront of various campaigns to support dedicated Veterans and their families for over 30 years. Their vehicle donation process is easy, fast and secure. They also offer free towing pickup services.

Make that decision to donate car and help these Vietnam veterans who sacrificed their lives for freedom. This act of charity will certainly go a long way.

Using snail mail in business.

In today’s modern age, we rarely send mails to our friends and loved ones, we now prefer emails or electronic mails. Understandably, it is a lot faster and cheaper. In fact, some would even prefer sending an electronic greeting card than a printed one. Some would even be contented to greet their friends or loved ones on Facebook or other social networking sites.

Although electronic mail is now an equally essential tool in business, it is still imperative for business owners to send mails to clients and business partners. The fact remains that not all people have access to emails or the internet; some have even access to this technology but prefer not to use it. But people with valid mailing address would most likely receive your letter sent through post. Some people would require that you send them documents in black and white. If you are a business owner and you want to expand your business then you should have all the options available to your clientele.

When I was still managing a small business, we regularly send mails to our customers to thank them for their continued patronage and it has always been appreciated. This small effort has always been an effective way to keep customers loyal to our business. We also make sure that our letters or mails are presentable and professionally done. We used address stamps which show the address and the logo of our business. This is to ensure that these customers will remember our business and our brand when they are in need of services that we offer. Some would say that this will just add to the growing cost of running the business but for me this is money well-spent as this small token will return in your business four-fold and can spell the success of your business.

The bottom line is if you want your business to be taken seriously then you have to be serious in running your business.

In need of a vacation.

I’m beginning to dread Monday mornings again. It's like my two-day weekend rest days are not enough to invigorate and fully recharge my body and spirit. This is a bad sign, a sign of burn out. The last time I felt like this, I contemplated resigning from my job. This is also an indication that I badly needed a vacation.

Working in a stressful environment like a call center can take its toll on one’s health. Irate customers, the demand to meet your metrics, the pressure to excel for the team can all add up to burn out. It will not be long and you will feel uptight and ill-tempered; before you know it, you’re on your way out.

I’ve been working in this industry for almost 5 years and what I’ve learned to cope with this problem is to maintain a balance between work and fun. If you feel that the pressure on your work is mounting and starting to bother you, then it is time to relax and take a vacation. Remember that burn out can cost us our jobs if we didn’t take the opportunity to loosen up.

This is the reason why I am always looking forward to a great vacation every year. Yes, I always want it to be the best no matter what the cost may be. I even had this crazy idea of cruising around the country in an RV or 5th wheels. That will be the day! For now, just another day or two summer getaway with my loved ones is good enough for me.

MYX Daily Top 10 - May 14, 2010 Featuring "Bingeul Bingeul" by U Kiss

"Pyramid" by Filipina international singer Charice Featuring Iyaz is still dominating the MYX Daily Top Ten while Justin Bieber's "Baby" is still on the number 2 spot. The Filipina singer's hit song also reclaimed the number 1 spot on Billboard's Dance/ Club Play Songs (week of May 22, 2010) and it is now on #76 on Canadian Hot 100.

All of the songs in the countdown have been featured in this blog except for "Bingeul Bingeul" by U Kiss. U-KISS is a seven-member South Korean boy band formed in 2008. The band members are Kevin, Ki Bum, Soo Hyun, Alexander, Eli, Dong Ho and Ki Seop. The name of the group was an acronym which stands for Ubiquitous Korean International (Idol) Super Star. Their first full length album, "Only One" was released on February 2010.

I'm not a fan of K-pop (an abbreviation for Korean pop music) but undoubtedly there is a recent surge of popularity of contemporary South Korean culture in the Philippines. This is evident even in the music scene.

Celebrating Originality

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of goviral. All opinions are 100% mine.

With the advent of modern technology, originality can now proved to be a difficult goal. Almost all ideas have already been thought of by other people who lived before us. Even movies and music currently being released can be traced its roots or were inspired by old movies or songs. Some artists even thought of reinventing old music and released songs they dubbed as “revivals” which were patronize by the people just the same.

What is originality? Some said that it is a creation devoid of influences. But in my opinion, influence and creativity can result to originality. For a creation to be original, you must bring something new to an idea that had been thought of someone else before you. Add a touch of your own creativity to it and it can come out as original. Sometimes, it is just a matter of uniqueness in the style and presentation.

Popular athletic footwear maker Adidas has started a worthy campaign of celebrating originality. It has enlisted the help of people from the worlds of music, fashion and sport to participate in this campaign. One of them is British hip hop group N-Dubz who also shared their own interpretation of originality, their youth experiences, and their music inspiration.

Watch N-Dubz together with other athletes, musicians, skaters, artist and entertainers coming together on the street where originality lives.

Eat your words!

This election is the height of arrogance. Watch the interview of different candidates from various national posts and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Ask any candidate of his/her chances of winning in the election and you will definitely get an answer to the effect that their victory is in the bag. I hadn’t heard a candidate who publicly admitted that he/she is at the brink of losing. Even those that are in the tail end of various surveys are acting as if they were done injustice and would swear that these surveys are not accurate and can be bought. Understandably, they don’t want to create the impression that they are losing hope and that the votes of their supporters will no longer matter. Some have egos bigger than their brains that they could swear that accepting defeat is not an option. But some candidates even bragged that they have overwhelming support from other politicians, they have gargantuan political machinery and that they are spending their own money for the campaign. But let’s face it, sooner or later these candidates will have to accept defeats or cry that they were “cheated.”

I have yet to see a candidate who humbly implores the public to vote for him/her. Most candidates are acting as if they are doing a great service to the country by running in the elections. As if they are the much-awaited “Messiah” that will free the country from poverty and suffering.

These politicians need to be reminded that their fate lies in the people’s hands. There is no way that we will have 9 elected presidents of the country. Only one will emerge as the winner and the rest will all be losers or “cheated.” When May 10 comes, political machinery or the billions of pesos on the pockets of these candidates will not matter. It will only be the voter and his/her conscience who will decide the next leader. A candidate may be the most qualified and the most competent of the lot but this is not an assurance that he will be voted as the next leader. History can attest to this fact.

We may not agree with the outcome of the elections but this is the very essence of democracy. We may question the mindset of the electorate but this is the price to pay for having a democratic society.

After the elections, some people and candidates will eat their own words. Those who swore that they are not prepared to lose will have to concede defeat. Politicians will show their true colors. Those who have been attacking a particular candidate will be the firsts to be on his side once he emerges as the winner.

I can only hope that after everything that was said and done, we can finally unite and work together after this election whoever wins.

Let’s pray for a peaceful and successful election this May 10!

All about business insurance.

Your business, small or big, profit or non-profit, should be insured. This is one thing that I learned when I was still helping my cousin manage a business. It was just a small business and when it was starting, the only insurance that we were able to secure was property insurance, specifically fire insurance, as it was a pre-requisite by the city or municipality before a permit can be issued to a business. A fire insurance policy only covered a fire loss to the location of the business whether it is owned, leased or rented. However, floods and other calamities that may also affect the business are not covered by this insurance.

We had that notion that since our business was just small; we really don’t need insurance for business. We thought that the money spent for insurance can be used in promotion and marketing. However, our experience in running the business for a couple of years thought us the value of insurance in business. It should actually be treated as an investment.

For one, worker’s compensation insurance is required in some places especially when you employ workers. It insures employees against on-the-job injuries. If your business exposes workers to hazards, then getting worker’s compensation insurance is a practical approach if you don’t want your employees to sue you or your business in case of on-the-job injuries.

Other insurance that you may want to invest upon are the liability insurance and the commercial auto insurance. It is highly recommended to get a commercial auto policy if you’re using vehicles in the operation of your business. It insures against damages to vehicles. Liability insurance policy protects your business in case your business is sued for negligence.

Deciding on what insurance to buy largely depends on the nature of your business. You should get your hands in all information about insurance and other options available. You can visit websites discussing in detail all the insurance coverage and policies that may apply in your business. You can also find websites that will provide information and quotes on business insurance on your area. California business insurance policies may differ than what they offer in New York so it is better to get a localized insurance resource. The important thing is you consider getting insurance for every operation and other risks that your business will likely faced.

A business experience.

My cousin and I used to run a small business. It was an electronics service center. It started out small, mostly catering to individuals who want their appliances fixed. When I joined the company, I realized that this business may not sustain itself if it will only rely on its current market. We can not simply hope that appliances from different households nearby will malfunction so our technicians will have something to fix. It was on this light that I proposed a vigorous promotion and marketing to grow our clientele. We sent proposals to different companies urging them to be part of our corporate accounts, offering them our services and discounts. It only took a couple of months and we have realized this goal, we had a wider clientele which meant more work for our workers.

But apart from the massive promotions, we also worked on enhancing the image of our small company. We had the idea that if we want to go big then we should project that we are one. We worked on changing our business signs, making it bigger and conspicuous. We also had to re-design our logos and business letterhead to be more professional. We thought that we will not be taken seriously by big businesses if we don’t attend to the small details of projecting a professional image. We succeed in this regard and the success went into our heads. We decided to expand the business, putting up a branch some place. We were young and aggressive. It proved to be premature; it was a risk that was not properly calculated. We were beset with problems because of the expansion. After a year, we closed the newly opened branch and it was a big blow on our egos.

The business is still in operation and still growing, as I was told, although I am no longer a part of it. I used to get consulted by my cousin on big decisions about the business until he has learned all the ropes of the business. It was an experience like no other and I hope to establish another business of my own in the near future.

House Bills and Resolutions authored by Noynoy Aquino.

With the advent of modern technology and the internet, information can now be easily disseminated. In a matter of seconds, the information can reach thousands or millions of targeted audience. This is the reason why marketers and propagandists are maximizing the enormous power of the internet to benefit their clients.

Unfortunately, some are using this powerful tool to advance their vested interests. Fake documents, edited photos or spliced videos and unscrupulous information can spread like wildfire on the web in a matter of minutes. Before you know it, the video, document, photo or information is all over Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube or on countless blogs. As if on a race against time, everybody wants to be the first to spread the information on different social networking sites. Few will take time to check if the information is true. Even if the subject of the attack can later debunk the authenticity of a document or photo, the damage has been done; seeds of doubts have been disseminated to the public.

Ironically, the internet also offers information for us to easily check the veracity of information presented. Almost all government and private agencies have websites with information accessible to the public. One quick search of their website can yield the information that you may be looking for. Of course, not all people have access to the internet but those people will also have no access to propaganda materials available online.

I have been reading a lot of posts in different forums and blogs about Noynoy Aquino and what seems to be a consistent attack on him was that his failure to file any bills or laws while in Congress. Well, it will only take a few minutes to check if this claim is true. I went to the official website of the House of Representatives and I searched the website for bills that Noynoy Aquino authored and guess what? It wasn’t zero after all, as some people would want us to believe. In fact, my search yielded a couple of bills and resolutions that he authored, not co-authored but authored. If supporters of other candidates will claim that these are not true then they must complain to the House of Representatives website for them to straighten out their facts. But seeing that these were taken from the official website of Congress, I don’t think that anybody can question the veracity of this information.
Although Noynoy believes that there were already too many laws, but they seemingly lacked proper implementation, he still filed bills that would help create opportunity rather than impose additional burdens to the public. Below are the bills and resolutions that he authored from 11th Congress to the 13th Congress.

Is Noynoy Aquino the real deal?

If we are to believe in surveys, then the next president of the Philippines is none other than Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Cojuangco Aquino III, the son of hero Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr and democracy icon and former president Corazon Aquino. With barely 2 weeks remaining before the May 10, 2010 elections Noynoy has even widened his lead over his closest rival Senator Manny Villar who was shown on TV saying that as long as the lead of Aquino is not in double-digits then it doesn’t worry him. Well, the results of the latest SWS survey might just be a bad news for Villar, Aquino’s lead jumped from 9 percent to 12 percent and Villar’s rating went down by 2 points. Pulse Asia reported an even wider 19-point gap with Noynoy getting the support of 39% versus the 20% for Villar. I wonder what Manny Villar is thinking right now. Imagine a neophyte senator who has no sterling track record to boast, no remarkable executive experience and no billions of pesos to spend in the campaign may just trounce him in the polls?

Manny Villar used to be the frontrunner in various surveys before Noynoy Aquino entered the picture late last year. The death of Noynoy’s mother, former President Cory Aquino served a pivotal role in changing the political landscape in the country just before the elections. The overwhelming display of love and support of the Filipinos to the former President gave birth to the idea that her son can possibly continue the legacy of this well-loved president. Based on the outpouring of support for the late president, he was clearly missed by the people. Some said that she was the antithesis of the current president. Former President Cory was just like Noynoy when she was thrust into the political arena, she was reluctant, even unprepared but she was willing to make sacrifices for the good of the country.

Even if he was the son of two illustrious Filipinos and a brother to famous celebrity Kris Aquino, Noynoy was unassuming. He was never the kind of politician who would steal the show from his fellow members of Congress by holding press conferences or do grandstanding in the halls of the lower House or the Senate. He was not like other politicians who have their eyes set for the presidency even when they are still in Congress. He managed to avoid the limelight but maintained an untainted record. He gave us the impression that he is not lusting for power.

According to his website: “In his nine years in the Lower House, Noynoy focused on the fiscalizing role of a legislator. He felt that there were already too many laws, and good ones at that, but they seemingly lacked proper implementation. He concentrated on crafting laws that would help create opportunity rather than impose additional burdens to those who are already disadvantaged. He actively took part in budget deliberations to ensure that government initiatives do address the plight of the people who need help the most.”

I also found a list of bills which I found progressive that Noynoy filed in the senate. According to Caucus of Development NGO Networks (CODE-NGO), Senator Aquino authored the Workers Productivity Incentives Act of 2007 that would grant annual productivity incentive bonuses to all workers in the private sector amounting to no less than 10% of the company’s net profits before taxes. He also led the call for the renegotiation of the Japan – Philippine Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) and voted against its ratification. He authored the Superior Responsibility Act of 2008 which would adopt the doctrine of “Superior Responsibility” for all military and police personnel, in response to extra-judicial killings, particularly human rights activists and media practitioners. He also authored bills that would promote transparency in government such as the Government Procurement Reform Act and the bill that would add Congressional oversight to budget decisions undertaken by the President, including budget rescission, reservation, and deferral. If you want to view the legislative record of the senator, then you can go to his website. You can also search for bills that he authored from http://www.congress.gov.ph/.

Critics of Noynoy are trying very hard to discredit him in many ways conceivable. He is being linked to Hacienda Luisita as if he completely owns it. You can also see various blogs and different forums referring to series of GMA news articles about the ghost of Luisita haunting Noynoy’s future as if its contents are bedrock truth. It doesn’t prove anything against Noynoy Aquino. The fact that it is now being used by his detractors to discredit him doesn't add to the credibility of the articles. I also found on YouTube a series of videos with a different tune. It explains what they said was the truth about the Hacienda, claiming that farmers and not propagandists were finally interviewed to get the facts straight.

There were also issues raised questioning his sanity or his mental health which I think is the cruelest attack on a person. If these allegations are true then his detractors could have provided a solid evidence to support their claims. There should be witnesses, at least, that can attest that they saw Noynoy on an insane or depressed state. But up to now, they can only come up with bogus psychiatric reports which can easily lead us to believe that these are nothing but black propaganda. Believe me, if there’s someone who is holding solid evidence that will put this man down, then the best time to surface is during this campaign when information like this can even worth a fortune. But so far, none has appeared.

Frankly, I was not impressed with Noynoy’s performance as a public servant. I will not vote for him just because he is the son of a hero and a democracy icon. I want to see more. I want to see a solid track record. I want to see him speak eloquently about his platform of government. That is what my ideal president. I want someone who can talk convincingly; someone who has a brilliant and bright mind. I don’t want just an ordinary person just like me. But then on second thought, do we really need an intelligent and a bright leader? If this is what we need, then why the need for an election, why can’t we just subject the candidates to an IQ test or any aptitude examination to know who is the most intelligent among the lot. That way, we can save billions of pesos that we are now spending in automated election.

And will brightness and competence bear fruits of good leadership? Let’s re-examine our country’s history and we will know that intelligent leaders don’t necessarily do well for the country. Marcos, for one was a brilliant speaker and a bar topnotcher getting almost a perfect score. Gloria Arroyo was educated at Georgetown University and was said to be once a classmate of Bill Clinton. If you think that they did well for the country then I rest my case. But if you think that what they did for the country contributed to our current state as a nation then I think it is high time for us to revisit our criteria in choosing our leaders. Perhaps, instead of intelligence why not look for a leader that has the credibility and moral ascendancy to lead and inspire the people. Why not look for a leader that we can trust or an honest leadership for a change?

Is Noynoy Aquino the real deal? Ultimately, history will have to reckon with him if he emerges as the winner. But if you will ask his supporters, you will surely get an affirmative answer. They said that Noynoy is a leader that we can be proud of, who has integrity, credibility and character with a legacy to protect. They said that he awakens hope in the Filipino people for a brighter and better tomorrow.

After visiting his website and verifying the claims and information provided therein, I was made to realize why this senator is enjoying the support of many people. He was not without accomplishments as a legislator just like what other people would want us to believe. He may not be the best legislator who walked in the halls of Congress but he did his job well as he saw it fit. He has a good vision of the Philippines which encourages Filipinos to join him in the fight to stop corruption. He is not promising to end poverty as if he is the "messiah" that will end our suffering but he wants us to work together to achieve a better Philippines.

I was not expecting this, but with only a couple of days before the elections, I now have a candidate for the presidency.
