What is your advocacy?

The question is not only for fellow bloggers but to all people who are reading this blog: What is your advocacy? It was the same question that left the most impact when I attended a pro-blogging seminar a couple of months ago. Honestly, the question came as a surprise since I was expecting a thorough discussion of topics revolving around the “Content is King” or “Marketing is Queen” clichés. But yeah, we were told that if you want to make it big in blogging, you have to have an advocacy.

Again, what is your advocacy? Advocacy is the act of actively supporting a cause or idea. Or it may be a personal conviction that you want to promote.

Do you blog just for money? Do you blog to gain friends? Do you blog just to have a place to post your pictures and brag about your personal escapades? Do you blog just to rant? Not that there’s anything wrong with it. It is your blog; you can do anything with it.

So what is my advocacy? Looking back at the very first post on this blog, I only stated that I wanted to write, that’s my only purpose when I started this blog. I just want a medium where I can post my thoughts and ideas. But then after a month, I started posting news of fellow Filipino’s achievements especially those that gives honor to the country. In one of my posts, I wrote: “Amidst the problems that beset our country today, with all the rising cost of basic commodities, one thing that badly needs a raise is our spirit and our pride as a Filipino.” It was the beginning; I started posting good news on this blog that will make every Filipino proud. It has become my advocacy. Before I change my layout, I even had a blog subtitle declaring: “Celebrating Filipino pride.” I don’t know how to put it back but even without that sub-title, I will continue to embrace this advocacy as long as this blog lives.

Okay, I have to admit, there were times when I can’t help but to criticize and complain. I also had my share of rants on this blog and for those times, I’m sorry. Please understand that I used to be an activist before I had this paradigm shift.

If you don’t have an advocacy yet, ask yourself these questions:

1. Do you want to display your expertise in a particular field?
2. Can you think of a problem that you believe you personally have a solution for?
3. Do you detest a certain habit, common practice or personality trait and you want to do something to address it?
4. Do you want to promote your passion or do you want to share your ideas that you think will help many people?

Ultimately, what do you want to be remembered for? What if you die tomorrow and you know that you’ll be writing your last post today? Will you rant? Will you post about your complaints and criticisms about a particular person, institution or life in general?

I would rather see life in a positive light and work on uplifting the morale of my countrymen. This is the least I can do for my beloved country.

How about you? What is your advocacy?

Proofreading can be a deadly job.

I once applied as a proofreader in a national broadsheet when I was still in college. I didn’t get the job because of conflicts with my school schedule. But never did I imagine that the job is dangerous, actually, it can be deadly lol.

Just look at the photo below. I saw this photo yesterday on Facebook and some blogs that I visited but I thought it was a hoax so I didn’t give it much attention. But on closer look, it was a scanned photo from the actual broadsheet.

If you didn’t get to see this photo and you don’t know what I’m talking about, then this is your chance. Just look at the caption of the photo below taken from a national broadsheet.

“With utmost care. Military honor guard carefully moves the coffin of President Arroyo out of the Manila Cathedral.”

According to the caption, it was not President Cory Aquino’s coffin that was being moved by the honor guard out of the Manila Cathedral but President Arroyo’s!

Some find it very funny; some find it irresponsible and disrespectful. I believe that this is just a mere human error, an honest mistake by whoever wrote the caption that was also overlooked by the proofreader and the section editor. But they just “killed” President Arroyo in the process.

They said that the controversial photo was published in the early edition but the section containing the photo was promptly removed from the newspaper sets after they discover the error. Is there anybody out there who still has a copy of this newspaper so we can verify if this is a hoax or not? This newspaper’s special edition may easily end up as a collector’s item, lol.

I pity the proofreader or the section editor. This mistake may just cost them their jobs.

So what do you think of this photo?

What color are you?

Much has been written about colors and its impact on our everyday lives. They said that colors can influence our emotions and even our actions and the way we respond to different people and ideas.

The late and former President Cory Aquino was associated with the color yellow. They said that yellow symbolizes wisdom. It also means joy and happiness.

What color are you? As you can see below, my color is blue and I won’t complain because it is actually my favorite color.

If you want to know your color, you can take this color test that I first saw on Melissa’s blog. You can simply answer ten short questions and you’ll know your color. This is something fun so go here to answer the questions.

BLUE

You give your love and friendship unconditionally. You enjoy long, thoughtful conversations rich in philosophy and spirituality. You are very loyal and intuitive.

“I Have Fallen In Love (With The Same Woman Three Times)” lyrics and video

As Filipinos around the world continue to mourn the death of former President Cory Aquino, let this blog pay tribute to the woman who served as a key to our freedom and democracy with the song that was made out of a poem that her beloved husband wrote. The poem, entitled “I Have Fallen In Love (With The Same Woman Three Times)”, was written by the late and former Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. for Cory Aquino at Fort Bonifacio on Oct. 11, 1973 for their 19th wedding anniversary. It was set to music by Jose Mari Chan who recorded it in 1989.

Thank you and have a safe trip home, Tita Cory!

Here’s the lyrics and a video from youtube:

I have fallen in love
With the same woman three times
In a day spanning nineteen years
Of tearful joys and joyful tears

I loved her first when she was young
Enchanting and vibrant, eternally new
She was brilliant, fragrant
And cool as the morning dew
I fell in love with her the second time

When first she bore her child and mine
She’s always by my side
The source of my strength
Helping to turn the tide

But there were candles to burn
The world was my concern
While our home was her domain
And the people were mine
While the children were hers to maintain
So it was in those eighteen years and a day
Till I was detained, forced in prison to stay
Suddenly she’s our sole support
Source of comfort, our wellspring of hope
On her shoulders fell the burden of life

I fell in love again with the same woman the third time
Looming from the battle her courage will never fade
Amidst the hardships she has remained
Undaunted and unafraid
She is calm and composed
She is God’s lovely maid
