When I was just starting my blogging journey a few years ago, I met a couple of bloggers who have helped me learn so many things about the wonders of blogging. As a newbie, I learned from them how to drive traffic to my blog, how to improve my page rank and so many other things. These friends supported me by commenting on my posts and I did the same thing. We exchanged links. I used to have a long blog roll dedicated for fellow bloggers and friends.
However, these friends have moved on. Most of them are no longer blogging hence their links no longer work or their blogs are no longer updated. Indeed, friends come and go.
So I guess it’s time to rebuild my Blog Roll. I have been receiving a couple of emails and requests for link exchange but I was just too lazy to work on them. But I already put this task on my to-do-list so it will be accomplished anytime soon.

First post for 2012
Let me first greet you a happy and a prosperous New Year. I hope that this new year brings blessings and happiness to all of us.
This is my first post for 2012 and let me take this opportunity to take a quick look at what this blog has accomplished last year and what direction it is heading.
This thought struck me last night when I received an email from Google Apps, reminding me that I need to renew this blog’s custom domain if I want to keep it online and under this domain. A decision needs to be made. Should I continue this blog? Is it worth it?
In order to come up with a proper decision, I needed to look back to see how far this blog has reached in its 3 years of existence. Assess the pros and cons of maintaining this blog. Yes, I started this blog April of 2009 and the fact that it is still live can be considered a major accomplishment. This blog, even with minimal updates, continues to get regular visitors from popular search engines. It has managed to maintain its PR 2 up to now and a good ranking on some of the more popular blogging communities. Of course, how can I forget the monetary rewards that I have enjoyed courtesy of the advertisements on this blog? The fact is, it would be painful to bid goodbye to something that has taught me a lot of lessons in writing and online marketing.
On the other hand, I have to admit that this blog has lost its focus. In fact, I am now having a hard time placing it in the Entertainment Category when all of my posts lately have been about music, politics and personal stuffs. I have managed to provide MYX Daily Top 10 updates from time to time but that will put my blog in the Music category if we will be stricter about it. I am also bothered by the number of paid links and reviews that have accumulated in the previous years. I have been trying to resist the temptation of deleting those paid reviews that I have done over the years and start all over again but I don’t want to get the ire of advertisers who expect to have their links live as long as the blog exists.
Well, I still have until the end of the month to decide on the fate of this blog. I’ll sleep on it first and weigh my options. But while I haven’t made my decision, I will try to update this blog with the usual stuff.

A new blog: Blog Blagan
As if my hands were not yet full with two English blogs, I recently started a Filipino blog on a different platform. Yup, this is my second attempt to blog in the vernacular and my first attempt to use Wordpress as the platform. (Don’t ask me which is the better platform. It’s too early for that.)
I started the blog called ”Blog Blagan” barely two weeks ago and it now has 9 posts! The name doesn’t have a direct translation but it is a play on the words “blog” for web log and “blag” which is the sound created when something was dropped. Anyway, I should say that it is a more personal blog about my thoughts on mundane things, which can turn out to be serious or funny. Consider it to be the expression of the wild side of me.
If you can understand Filipino or Tagalog and you have time to waste, feel free to visit ”Blog Blagan.” If you have good words to say about the new blog, please let me know. If you don’t like what you see or read, then forget about it, lols. Kidding aside, constructive criticisms are always welcome on all of my blogs.

Blogging Again
November proves to be a good month for me. Well, every month should be depending on how you chose to look at it. But this month has proven to be my most productive month so far. We’re already halfway through the month and I have managed to keep this blog active again.
As if this is not enough, I have started another blog in Filipino. I’m on a roll! If you're thinking that I'm now blogging full time. No, I still have my day job. Nothing has changed, actually, except for the ease on my work load. Suffice it to say that I now have enough time to write posts for my blogs. I am still trying to find time to do blog hopping and some other online activities to promote my blog but I hope that it will come in time.
I’m still thankful that even after months of absence in the blogosphere, I still see hundreds of visitors dropping by, visiting my blog. This serves as my motivation to continue blogging. I want them to see new updates when they visit this blog.
A few friends and readers called my attention about an issue that they have encountered when they tried to visit this blog. They said that a message is coming up that this blog or at least a component of this blog is suspected to be infected by malware. I looked at the message and the link points to the blog of the person who designed my custom template. I tried to visit her blogs hoping that I could leave a comment but all her blogs are coming up with the same warning: that the blogs are reported to be virus attack pages. I still plan to notify her of the error with her blogs in case she is still active. But I have decided to do a major makeover on this blog. I’m still looking for a suitable template but none has caught my fancy yet. I’ll keep looking though. It would really be sad to say goodbye to this template that I have kept for almost two years.

Two days of brownout, five days without an internet!
Just when I was prepared to spend more time online last week, typhoon Basyang (International name: Conson) struck the country to spoil my plans. The result: two days of blackout, five days without an internet connection and a blog without an update for a week! It was a resounding reminder that even if we like to think that we are always in charge of our lives, the truth is, we are not.
Since I promised to update my blog on a more regular basis, my initial plan was to wake up an hour earlier every day to write my blog post and drop Entrecards before I go to the office. I only slept for a few hours last Tuesday night as the typhoon wrought havoc. The wind is too strong as it kept on pounding roofs and anything in its path. I was anxious as this was the first typhoon that we encountered in this new house. Thank God, the house was still intact when I woke up the next day. But everything was in total darkness, there was a blackout. On my way to the office, I saw small trees uprooted along the main roads, branches scattered and some streets were flooded. Most parts of Luzon were affected by the blackout; there were even no traffic lights on that Wednesday morning.
It was only last Friday when the electricity was restored. But then we were disappointed when we discovered that we also don’t have an internet connection. We tried calling Smartbro, our ISP, but that was a complete waste of time. After countless times of dialing their technical support number, all we were able to reach was their IVR saying that our antenna was inaccessible. We tried calling during the day, morning, afternoon and even during midnight but we never got to speak with a live person. We tried holding for a couple of minutes up to an hour until we ended giving up. Great service, indeed!
Thanks to the makers of “Plants vs. Zombies”, I was able to survive the weekend without an internet connection.
It was only yesterday morning when I discovered that we finally have an internet connection. Hallelujah!
It could have been worse. Some families were left homeless by the typhoon. In fact it left some people dead. I can only be thankful that we were not severely affected by the typhoon.

A Message from an Entrecard "Ghost Dropper!"
Today is Valentine’s Day so I should be posting something about LOVE and I was prepared to discuss this topic when I opened my PC. Like I used to do, I started dropping Entrecards to keep me in the mood for writing. I dropped Entrecards while browsing other blogger’s posts and commenting when I have something good to say about the posts or some helpful insight about the article.
Then I stumbled upon a blog calling some EC droppers “cheaters” and “scammers”. I was shocked especially when I found one of my Entrecards listed there. I don’t know if this blog was previously listed but as of this writing, only my other blog Kapamilya Corner is listed in his post as one of those blogs “allegedly” scamming the EC system. I take it as a personal insult which is uncalled for. This guy badly needs attention and traffic so let’s give it to him. Unfortunately, I cannot put his link into this blog as I don’t want to dignify what he is doing to me and other fellow bloggers.
You can call me names but I resent it when someone calls me a cheater or a scammer. This person doesn’t even know me. I have never earned anything that is not a product of my hard work. I was personally offended once by a fellow blogger who plagiarized my blog post but I never called her names. I exposed her not without evidence (I had a screenshot of her blog with the copied article). I even demanded her to remove the article before I published the expose. Even though she probably earned a couple of dollars by copying my post, I never called her a cheater or a scammer. However misguided, she just wants to earn a living. There’s just so much negativity in the internet that I will not dare add to it.
I have been blogging for almost 2 years now and I don’t think that anybody can claim that I or any of my blogs has offended anyone. I have the utmost respect to my fellow bloggers especially those who are earning a living through blogging. But I believe that we can earn a living through blogging with decency and proper decorum.
I know my responsibility as a blogger. With all the problems and bad news in my country and this world that I can rant about, I choose to blog about the positive news, considering that the former is more appealing to readers and could give more traffic.
I can quit blogging anytime I want to. In case you want to know, this is not my bread and butter as I have a stable day job. I did not blog for about 2 months and I never missed a meal. Yes, I am earning a few dollars with my 2 blogs but I will gladly quit blogging if this will jeopardize my integrity as a person.
Some bloggers only want attention. Unfortunately, some want to be popular even at the expense of other people. Someone with good intentions can simply call the “erring” person’s attention about a perceived irregularity before exposing him/her to the public. Or he can report it to the concerned people (like Entrecard on this case) so they can do something about it. For all we know, some of these bloggers are misguided. They probably thought that they are using a system that is “legal”. Instead of warning other bloggers not to use systems designed to "cheat" Entrecard, he went on his way to attack these poor bloggers tagging them as “cheaters” and “scammers.”
What a waste of energy!
I don’t need to defend myself here. If I receive a message from Entrecard asking me to explain then I would. But I am not a ghost dropper. I wouldn’t have read this blogger’s article if I wasn’t visiting his site. I only dropped EC’s on blogs that are in my Inbox and if there’s ample time, I also dropped to those that are in the top of their categories. I am not even using a special drop-list like other EC members are using. That is why you will not see my blogs on the top droppers’ list of any blog, I only drop EC’s when I have the time and most of the time, I don’t have it. I don’t even promote my other blog since its theme is local entertainment. This is the reason why I chose not to include my other blog in my Blogging For Fun group since most of my fellow bloggers who are from overseas will surely not appreciate its content.
I don’t want anything more than RESPECT from my fellow bloggers. I don’t agree that respect is something that needs to be earned. All of us deserve a certain amount of respect. I don’t visit bloggers spamming their comment forms or shoutboxes begging for everybody to visit my blogs. If you don’t want me visiting your blogs or dropping EC’s on your precious blog, then say so. My time is precious just like yours.

I can no longer recall the last time this blog received an award. Was it 3 or 4 months ago? Admittedly, I wasn’t that active in my blogging activities in the last few months to merit an award or recognition from fellow bloggers. No comment.
For starters, let me thank a couple of fellow bloggers and friends especially to Badong and Femme Power who sent me email messages to inform me that this blog’s comment form was not working properly since the other day. Apparently, they’ve been trying to leave comments on my posts but couldn’t. I really don’t know what happened but they said that the comment box was not scrolling down so they cannot click the button to publish their comments. I apologize for the inconvenience. I really appreciate your continued support.
Honestly, I wasn’t able to figure out the cause of the problem. A few weeks ago, I removed my previous comment form due to complaints that their comments were missing. I was also having problems managing and moderating comments on the old form, especially those comments from old posts. I simply don’t have the time to check on old posts to see if there are new comments needing a response.
While thinking of other options, I re-installed JS-Kit and I was able to leave a comment on one post. It seems that the issue has been fixed for now. I am also thinking of putting a chat box again on this blog so visitors and fellow bloggers will have an alternative way of contacting me in case the comment form fails again.
And still about comments, I also would like to apologize to visitors and fellow bloggers if I was unable to respond to your comments. I appreciate your comments but I have been too preoccupied with some other things lately that I no longer have time to visit other blogs or respond to comments. I promise to visit your blogs and respond to your comments once everything goes back to normal.

What is your advocacy?
The question is not only for fellow bloggers but to all people who are reading this blog: What is your advocacy? It was the same question that left the most impact when I attended a pro-blogging seminar a couple of months ago. Honestly, the question came as a surprise since I was expecting a thorough discussion of topics revolving around the “Content is King” or “Marketing is Queen” clichés. But yeah, we were told that if you want to make it big in blogging, you have to have an advocacy.
Again, what is your advocacy? Advocacy is the act of actively supporting a cause or idea. Or it may be a personal conviction that you want to promote.
Do you blog just for money? Do you blog to gain friends? Do you blog just to have a place to post your pictures and brag about your personal escapades? Do you blog just to rant? Not that there’s anything wrong with it. It is your blog; you can do anything with it.
So what is my advocacy? Looking back at the very first post on this blog, I only stated that I wanted to write, that’s my only purpose when I started this blog. I just want a medium where I can post my thoughts and ideas. But then after a month, I started posting news of fellow Filipino’s achievements especially those that gives honor to the country. In one of my posts, I wrote: “Amidst the problems that beset our country today, with all the rising cost of basic commodities, one thing that badly needs a raise is our spirit and our pride as a Filipino.” It was the beginning; I started posting good news on this blog that will make every Filipino proud. It has become my advocacy. Before I change my layout, I even had a blog subtitle declaring: “Celebrating Filipino pride.” I don’t know how to put it back but even without that sub-title, I will continue to embrace this advocacy as long as this blog lives.
Okay, I have to admit, there were times when I can’t help but to criticize and complain. I also had my share of rants on this blog and for those times, I’m sorry. Please understand that I used to be an activist before I had this paradigm shift.
If you don’t have an advocacy yet, ask yourself these questions:
1. Do you want to display your expertise in a particular field?
2. Can you think of a problem that you believe you personally have a solution for?
3. Do you detest a certain habit, common practice or personality trait and you want to do something to address it?
4. Do you want to promote your passion or do you want to share your ideas that you think will help many people?
Ultimately, what do you want to be remembered for? What if you die tomorrow and you know that you’ll be writing your last post today? Will you rant? Will you post about your complaints and criticisms about a particular person, institution or life in general?
I would rather see life in a positive light and work on uplifting the morale of my countrymen. This is the least I can do for my beloved country.

My Top 10 Emerging Influential blog for 2009 - Final list
About two weeks ago, I posted my partial list of nominees for the Top Ten Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009. I only posted nine blogs at that time simply because I have yet to decide on who will fill the 10th slot although I already had a blog in mind.
I was amazed at the level of interest shown by fellow bloggers on this writing project. Some would openly campaign for their blogs and I don’t have anything against it. I actually admire these bloggers.
I will not discuss the reasons why I picked these blogs. Suffice it to say that I visited these blogs and I liked what I saw on their pages.

My Top 10 Emerging Influential blogs for 2009
A blogger friend Badong introduced me to the Top 10 Emerging Influential blogs for 2009 when he included me in his personal list. I didn’t know that this award exists but I was very much honored with the nomination. Unfortunately, when I checked the website of the organizer, it was then that I read that one criterion to be eligible for a nomination is that the blog should be created from May 1, 2008 to the present. This blog started last April of 2008. So I’m definitely not qualified.
Nevertheless, I am posting my own list as I would like to express my support for this endeavor as it not only honors bloggers but it also inspires us to make a difference in our continued efforts to express our thoughts, share our knowledge and insights to the world. Besides, I also received requests from fellow bloggers who wanted me to consider them in case I decide to post my own list for this award. It's hard to say no to such requests hehehe.
Please note that I will only be listing blogs that are eligible for the award based on the organizer’s criteria. There are so many great blogs out there but there are only few new blogs that stand out. In fact, I already have a complete list of top 10 about a week ago (before I got sick) but I decided to remove one blog from the list. The reason? I commented on this blogger’s article about a week ago and I didn’t even receive a reply. So I will have to put my nomination for this particular blog on hold, hehehe.

A new layout.
How often should we change our blog layout? Is there a set standard on how many times we should change our template in a year? I don’t think there is but if you have answers to these questions, your feedback is highly appreciated.
What made me asked these questions? If you haven’t noticed, I have a new blog layout. This is actually the third template that I have used this year. I didn’t plan it, I was prepared to keep my blog’s layout until I find a better one. Honestly, I have come to love this layout. It is just disappointing when you see another blog who has the same template as the one you are using. But since you cannot claim ownership of the template, you cannot do anything about it.
One day, when I was visiting my favorite blogs and dropping Entrecards, I commented on Carlota’s blog who was then hosting a contest for her fellow bloggers. The prize? A custom layout. I have always wanted to have a custom layout but I was not prepared to pay for it hehehe. Obviously, I was one of the winners and you are now looking at my prize.
Well, thanks to Carlota for all the hard work and creativity that she had put in to come up with this layout. She definitely exceeded all of my expectations. I just love the header!

I installed this layout on the 8th of February 2009 and it has since played a significant role in the success and failures of this blog. However, it is time to say goodbye to this layout.

Kreativ Blogger Award
It’s been a long time since I received a blog award from a fellow blogger but here’s another one when I least expected it. I would like to thank my new blogging buddy, Vlad of Stalking Minds for giving me this Kreativ Blogger Award. I’m very much honored and I greatly appreciate this.
The rule of the award is to tell seven things that you love. Here is my list:
1. My family and that includes my girlfriend Donna – Need I say more?
2. My computer – I will not be able to blog without it.
3. My 3 blogs – They are my brainchildren and they also serve as stress relievers after a stressful day at work.
4. My TV – I love watching television. I can watch TV and work with my computer at the same time. Multitasking at its best hehehe.
5. Fruits and Veggies – I can live without meat and fish in my diet but never without fruits and vegetables.
6. Books – I used to be a bookworm and even though I no longer have much time to read books I’m still keeping my collection of books that I bought in the past.
7. Bed – I would kill for a good night's sleep, lol. Working in a call center made me appreciate the value and the benefits of resting and sleeping at night time. It’s a good thing that I no longer work the graveyard shift.

Link Exchange. Be part of my blog roll!
Friends come and go. I didn’t know that this old adage is also appropriate in the blogosphere.
When I was just starting with my blogging journey, I met a couple of bloggers who have helped me learn so many things about the wonders of blogging. As a newbie, I learned how to drive traffic to my blog, how to improve my page rank and so many other things. These friends used to comment on my posts and I did the same thing. We exchanged links.
However, these friends have moved on. When I visited the links in my blog roll a few days ago, they are now broken links; some are now sites showcasing the latest travel packages to Boracay Island or the Windsor Hills Resort. Some were still active blogs but with the last post dated three months ago.
When I bought myself my own custom domain, I visited the blogs on my blog roll to request for them to update my blog’s URL. A few updated my link which I am very grateful, but some just didn’t care.
Anyway, I’ve managed to meet new friends in the course of my blogging journey. I also joined a Yahoo group called Blogging for Fun and I am proud to be a member of the group. By the way, I’ve added the links of my Blogging for Fun friends in my sidebar.
So I guess it’s time to rebuild my Blog Roll. I already received a couple of requests for link exchange but I was just too lazy to work on it. But I’ll surely find time this weekend.

PR Update and A New Call Center Blog
I just realized that there was a PR update recently and this blog was able to maintain its PR1. I am taking it positively, I was expecting an improvement on this blog’s Pagerank but it seems that my efforts weren’t good enough. At least, I still have a page rank. Sadly, my other blog has dropped to PR 2 from its PR3.
I hope that things will change for the better next time.
Anyway, I just started promoting a new blog in the blogosphere. It is called A Call Boy's Blog. It is not actually new, but newer than this blog, I just don’t have the time to promote it. This blog was conceived when I was still in my early months working as a call center agent. I will try to compile in this blog all the available resources that will help those that are interested in pursuing a career in the call center industry as well as my personal insights and experiences in this job that I’m very much willing to share. This is the least that I can do to help this industry that I have learned to hate… and to love.
However, since this blog was created specifically for Filipinos, a few of the posts are written in the vernacular, some are in Tagalog-English. I now have about 25 posts in the blog, so if you want to take a peek, visit me at the link below:
