Komik’s presents “Varga” premieres on August 2.

Mariel Rodriguez flies high on Saturday as Varga premieres on Philippine television. Varga is the latest boob tube superheroine--gifted with superpowers, beauty and a great body.

Mars Ravelo, the Father of Pinoy Superheroes, created Varga in 1947 which first appeared in Bulaklak magazine. It was said that it was Varga whom Ravelo would later evolve into the Pinoy superhero icon, "Darna" in 1949, when the comics creator joined Pilipino Komiks.

Varga is a powerful being from outer space. She lands on earth and becomes destined to protect the mankind from the forces of evil with the help a kind-hearted girl.

As an alien superheroine who comes to love and protect humanity, Varga will undergo challenges that will really test her character.

"Varga" is the second part of the Mars Ravelo’s Komiks Presents series. The first Komiks series presented "Kapitan Boom!" top-billed by model-turned-actor Jon Avila. "Kapitan Boom!" is a huge success, enjoying high ratings for its Saturday time-slot.

Here’s a peek on the trailer:

Filipino artist among the designers of Pixar's 'WALL-E'

About a month or two ago, I posted here the trailer of the computer-animated movie, Wall – E by Pixar. Never did I imagine that a Pinoy artist is among the designers of this movie. Indeed, there’s no stopping the Filipino talents from conquering the world of entertainment.

Nelson Bohol, a production artist is the only Filipino member of the design team who contributed his creativity in finishing the animation’s over-all appearance.

WALL-E is the latest among Bohol’s assignments which included animated films "Ratatouille" (2007), "Cars" (2006), "The Incredibles" (2004) and "Finding Nemo" (2003).

Bohol is also behind the lay -out of movies "Titan A.E." (2000) and "Anastasia" (1997).

According to absCBNnews:

Bohol said he owes his “Hollywood success” to his mother, who was among the fatalities of the ill-fated M/V Doña Paz in 1987. He also credits his success to the hardships he faced while struggling to finish his architecture degree at Manuel L. Quezon University.

“Ang hamon dito i-recreate ang daigdig na naging basurahan na, so this part was inspired by the San Francisco Bay Area na nawalan ng tubig,” said Bohol as he showed one of their movie illustrations.
“[Naranasan ko] ‘yung wala kang pambili ng papel, walang baon. Pero tinaguyod ako ng nanay ko kahit hirap… [All] throughout I did not give up, I kept on dreaming because dreams can come true. I know she is happy for me,” he said.

The Small Wonder says goodbye to PDA.

The final list of the Headmaster’s list of top ten scholars was completed when Christian was voted out of the Pinoy Dream Academy. It was a real close contest with Iñaki garnering 56.01% of votes while Christian on the losing end only got 43.99 percent of the total votes. He can’t help but to shed tears as he sang his final song on the Performance Hall.

On a positive note, the 6th Gala Performance night proved to be a blast for the scholars. The three jurors, namely Louie Ocampo, Verni Varga and Gerard Salonga, were indeed impressed with the scholars’ trio performances. The judges were delighted that they were finally enjoying while watching the performances.

Sen, Van and Bugoy’s group was luckiest trio who received a generous grade from the jurors for their acapella version of the song Yesterday, a superb performance that also earned them the title Best Performance of the Night.

The Scholars were also informed that there will be no probationary scholars for this week, thus no expulsion taking place next Saturday. Instead of losing a scholar, they will be gaining another one—an honorary scholar whose job is to challenge the Headmaster’s Top 10.

Poy, from Zamboanga, is the said addition to the Academy. She was one of the wait-listed Dreamers in the final casting.

The honorary scholar’s task is to grab the top spot from the scholars in three consecutive performance nights. In doing so, she will win P50,000 a night or a total of P150,000 which will be deducted from the three Star Dreamers’ pot money of P1.8 million. Poy will also have the chance to choose to return the money and become and official scholar instead.

Bea, expelled from PDA season 2.

Beatriz "Bea" Muñoz, the Sweet Chanteuse from Muntinlupa bids goodbye to the Pinoy Dream Academy during its 5th Gala Performance Night. She only got 25.15 % of text votes compared to the 75.85 % of votes garnered by her boyfriend Miguel.

Bea reprises the Apo Hiking Society original “Yakap Sa Dilim” during the performance night but resident juror Gerald Salonga said that he’s not sure if Bea has enough singing ability to become a good singer.

In the meantime, Miguel was again included in the bottom 4 after their performances together with Bunny, Christian and Iñaki. However, Miguel was saved by the mentors. Don’t fail to watch the exciting Pinoy Dream Academy season 2 on ABS-CBN’s primetime bida.

Kindness Pays...

Here is another beautiful anecdote that was shared to me via email entitled: KINDNESS PAYS... Based on some articles on the internet, it is a true story that has been greatly exaggerated to better tell the story and to make it more touching. After reading the story, I was reminded of a popular quotation below:

“I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”
- William Penn

Here’s the story:

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, "How much do I owe you?"

"You don't owe me anything," she replied "Mother has taught us never to accept payment for a kindness." He said... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt; stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown he we nt in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room.

She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side as She read these words.....

"Paid in full with one glass of milk." (Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly.

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You, GOD, that Your love has spread abroad through human hearts and hands."

A beautiful love story

It’s been a while since I last updated this blog and I do apologize to all my fellow bloggers and visitors. Bayantel is still making my head spin; I still don’t have my DSL connection.

Anyway, I would like to share this story from an email sent to me yesterday. The subject says, “Naiyak ako dito.” Although I didn’t shed a tear after reading the story, it subtly touches my heart. Hope you will enjoy it.

Here’s the story:

There was once this guy who is very much in love with his girl. This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of paper cranes as a gift to his girl.

Although, at that time he was just a small fry in his company, his future didn't seem too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualize any future for the both of them, so they went their own ways there and then...
Heartbroken, the guy agreed. But when he regained his confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of himself.

Finally with all the hard work and the help of friends, this guy had set up his own company ..

You never fail until you stop trying. One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realize they were his girl's parents.

With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same any more; he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He made it! What he saw nex tconfused him, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and so he got out of his car and followed...and he saw his girl, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as
ever at him from her tombstone and he saw his paper cranes right beside her...

Her parents saw him. He asked them why this had happened. They explained, she did not leave for France at all. She was ill with cancer. She had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want to be his obstacle... therefore she had chosen to leave him.

Just because someone doesn't love you the way you wa nt them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again...he can take some of those back with him...

Once you have loved, you will always love. For what's in your mind may escape but what's in your heart will remain forever.

The guy just wept...The worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside her knowing you can't have her, see her or be with her ever again.........hope you understand.

Find time to realize that there is one person who means so much to you, for you might wake up one morning losing that person who you thought meant nothing to you.

I Love My Job!

My girlfriend sent me a poem in an email a couple of days ago. We work in the same call center and we use email as a means of communication for instant messaging is not allowed on her account. I remember one fellow-blogger commented on one of my posts here that working in a call center sucks and the hours are ungodly, I totally agree. Not to mention, the stress and pressure that you can incur in this working environment. I heard that people should only be working in this setting for just two years because of the job hazard. I don’t know if it’s true but I know people working as call center agents for more than 5 years. I reckon, it depends on the person’s vulnerability.

I can’t help but to smile when I read the poem below:

The lost Dr. Seuss Poem

I Love My Job!

I love my job, I love the pay!
I love it more and more each day.
I love my boss, he is the best!
I love his boss and all the rest.
I love my office and its location,
I have to have to go on vacation.
I love my furniture, drab and grey,
And piles of paper that grow each day!
I think my job is really swell,
There’s nothing else I love so well.
I love to work among my peers,
I love their leers and jeers and sneers.
I love my computer and its software,
I hug it often though it won’t care.
I love each program and every file,
I’d love them more if they worked a while.
I’m happy to be here. I am. I am.
I’m the happiest slave of the Firm, I am.
I love this work, I love these chores.
I love the meetings with deadly bores.
I love my job – I’ll say it again.
I even love those friendly men.
Those friendly men who’ve come today,
In clean white coats to take me away!!!!
