I Voted for the Filipino CNN Hero!

I was amazed when I heard the news that a Filipino emerged as one of the Top 10 CNN Heroes for 2009. Efren Peñaflorida is a 28-year old former slum dweller who formed the Dynamic Teen Company, a team of volunteers who teach basic reading and writing to Filipino street children living in the streets. Their main tool: A pushcart classroom. Dynamic Teen Company gives Filipino youth an alternative to gang membership through education. Efren Peñaflorida’ s company’s 10,000 members have taught basic reading and writing to 1,500 kids living in the slums.

You can read more about Efren Peñaflorida on CNN.com.

I am encouraging everyone especially fellow Filipinos to vote for Efren Peñaflorida.

This guy deserves to win! Voting continues until Thursday, November 19, 2009 (6 a.m. ET). There is no limit on the number of times you may vote for the Hero of the Year.

I never get tired of hearing true to life stories like this one. This just goes to show all of us that one person can make a difference in many lives. Hats off to Efren and to those who are being taught by him and his associates. Thanks!

Lovin' this entry Leo. It's about time that a regular guy gets recognition for doing something extraordinary. We need more people like him - the fact that he is not a politician/actor/musician/athlete shows that as long as you have the heart and devotion to do what you love and it helps a society, go for it. I am sure there are alot of Efrens lurking around in the Philippines and their hardwork and passion needs to be acknowledged. I myself am an advocate for reading and it is the best gift you can give to a child. Kudos to Mr. Efren!
